Job Description
Position: Donations Coordinator
Reports to: Director of Resettlement Services
Status: 30 hours per week. Hours may increase to 40 during the months of July- September but not until 2009. It is likely that the position will change in the following way beginning October 1, 2008: full health benefits and 401K will be offered and 15 hours of the position will include new duties such as cleaning the office and minor maintenance duties.
Summary:
World Relief - Chicago assists with the resettlement of refugees through providing cultural adjustment and employment services, English Language Training, citizenship classes, mental health services, and programs for children. This position is responsible for making sure refugee apartments are furnished appropriately before they arrive and the overall maintenance of tasks related to this.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Take phone calls from donors and arrange for the pick up and storage of donated furniture and apartment furnishings;
-Maintain furniture storage room organization;
-Deliver and set up furniture and related items such as pillows and kitchen supplies to refugee apartments prior to refugee’s arrival in the U.S.;
-Purchase items such as pillows, kitchen supplies and other necessities for the apartment of these items are not donated;
-Work with refugee’s Adjustment Case Manager to obtain keys to the apartment and a deadline for furnishing the apartment;
-Collaborate with Resettlement Projects Coordinator to fulfill any additional requests refugees may have for household items;
-Monitor and facilitate vehicle maintenance as needed;
-Assist in purchasing new vehicles, if necessary;
-Other related responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:
-Cross-cultural sensitivity and an interest in helping refugees;
-Ability to communicate clearly and politely with donors;
-Good time management skills;
-Physical strength related to the ability to move heavy furniture into apartments;
-Conversational English ability;
-Good driving record and valid driver’s license.
