The Program:
Jayson Home and Garden gives students hands-on training in their field of interest. Interns learn about day-to-day
operations in running a successful high-end home furnishings and accessories retail store. Interns must commit to working a minimum
of 10 hours per week. It is an unpaid internship, and a successful internship will not necessarily translate into permanent employment;
however, interns are given at least the same consideration as other candidates when job opportunities arise.
Learning Objectives include the following.
` Gain knowledge of how to enter purchase orders into JHG database
` Become skilled at writing and/or changing descriptions of merchandise on the Jayson Home and Garden website
` Assist in developing and implementing Jayson Home and Garden¡¦s annual Flea Market
` Research antiques and unique merchandise
` Gain an understanding of the goals and challenges specifically related to high-end retail
Additional Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
` Obtain merchandise requested by customer or receive merchandise selected by customer
` Answer customer¡¦s questions concerning location, price, and use of merchandise
` Keep the showroom clean and orderly
Qualifications/Requirements:
` Previous retail or customer service experience.
` Ability to speak effectively with customers.
` Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
` Must be able to work with minimum amount of supervision during peak season hours.
` Must be proactive in learning and willing to bring new ideas to colleagues.
Education/Training/Experience
` Work and learning objectives will be reviewed on a monthly basis
` Majoring in Interior Design, Purchasing, Merchandising, or other related field
` College credit and professor contacts should be discussed, it is the student's responsibility to make sure their supervisor has all necessary contacts and information.
