Community & Support Liaison/Public Ally

This is a 9 month Americorps service position as a Community and Support Liaison at a non-profit that provides direct service to the community including career and financial counseling, education and training and access to income support. This is a Public Allies opportunity that requires a 50 hour/week commitment and includes a leadership development training program and a team service project. Responsibilities
• Organizing community outreach activities such as workshops and presentations on issues relevant to the community residents’ needs.
• Working with the Program Director to access area residents that need core services provided with the agency.
• Identifying employment opportunities for the program’s job develops
• Providing coaching to the job developers on job related skill sets and resume development
• Support for other projects and administrative functions as needed

Requirements
• A demonstrated passion for community service
• Proficient writing skills and the ability to produce documents free of grammar and spelling errors
• Highly proficient in MS Word, Outlook and internet with basic proficiency in MS Excel
• Ability to create resumes and other professional documents
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Previous professional experience (volunteer, part-time job etc.) a huge plus
• Comfortable interacting with a diverse group of people in a variety of settings including parents, clients, community leaders and educators
• Ability to lead basic job skills classes for clients and parents
• Pro-active, solutions oriented and polished interpersonal skills
• Solid research skills with the confidence to find resources for our clients
• Is comfortable travelling around Chicago independently

Additional Qualifications
• Must be a high school graduate or has obtained his/her GED
• Fluent in written and spoken English
• Must be legal to work in the United States
