Director of Endurance Events

The AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) is seeking a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented person to serve as its Director of Endurance Events. The Director of Endurance Events is the leader of Train To End AIDS, encompassing marathon and triathlon pledge events for the AIDS Foundation of Chicago. The Director is responsible for overall planning, coordination, and execution of all aspects of Train To End AIDS, including identification of event volunteer leadership, organizing committee members, soliciting underwriting support, creating and implementing an event/training plan and executing events within budget to achieve fundraising goals. The Director works as a member of the Development Team and assists in all aspects of the fundraising program to help the agency in achieving its financial and visibility goals. The Director of Endurance Events reports to the Vice President of Development.

Founded in 1985 by community activists and physicians, AFC is a local and national leader in the fight against HIV/AIDS. AFC collaborates with community organizations to develop and improve HIV AIDS services; funds and coordinates prevention, care, and advocacy projects; and champions effective, compassionate HIV/AIDS policy.

Principal responsibilities of this position include the following:
• Plan, coordinate and execute major endurance fundraising events including the marathon and triathlon training program, and other third party events.
• Provide leadership to and work with the Board of Directors and Junior Board to identify sponsorship prospects (individual, corporate and foundation) and develop appropriate cultivation plans for solicitation of sponsorships from each, including taking an active role in the solicitation process. creating proposals and outlining benefits for sponsors.
• Create timelines for events and assure that tasks are completed in a timely fashion.
• Hire and supervise all coaches associated with the program.
• Responsible for maintaining and building relationships with vendors and consultants associated with the program.
• Develop and maintain volunteers to assist with special events and community outreach activities.
• Create strategies to generate interest in events and track progress toward achieving the event goals (registrations, participant fundraising milestones, drop-outs, etc.)
• Work collaboratively with Communications team to create and implement marketing and public relations plans to boost participation in the events.
• Prepare and administer budgets for all related events.
• Lead Volunteer Advisory Committee to assist in the successful development of the endurance program.
• Identify and solicit corporations to support agency event expenses and assure event proceeds go directly to agency services.
• Assure that corporations receive event sponsorship benefits.
• Follow-up with sponsors to promote their satisfaction and likelihood to continue supporting the agency.
• Build relationships with corporate representatives and identify volunteer connections whose interests match the organization.
• Assist with agency-wide activities as directed, including Annual Meeting, AIDS Run & Walk, World of Chocolate and others;
• Assist with other AFC activities as requested;
• Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Medicine, or other related field strongly preferred. Must have Experience organizing and coordinating an athletic pledge event, with a demonstrated ability to solicit contributions from organizations and individuals. Three Years prior supervisory experience required. Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, the ability to work well with volunteers, boards and auxiliaries, ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, be well-organized and computer literate with knowledge of donor data base systems, and have strong networking ability. Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects, establish workload priorities, and meet deadlines are critical.


Hiring range for this position is the low $50’s annually dependent on experience.
