For the third year in a row, expatriates from the entire World, members of local foreign communities as well as Chicagoans, will play for their motherland national teams in the Fellowes ChicagoWorldCup 2008, the most mutlicultural soccer tournament in town.

The sixteen national teams will play this one-day tournament on June 21th, 2008 at the YMCA Rauner Family, 2700S Western Avenue in Chicago. They will try to become the third Fellowes ChicagoWorldCup Champions to win the exact replica of the FIFA World-Cup trophy that will be presented to them at a later date on the field of the Toyota Park by the Chicago Fire.

The Fellowes ChicagoWorldCup follows a simple, popular and easy to enjoy “Cup” format: in order to enter the quarter finals of the main event, each team will have to qualify by taking one of the top two spots of the four qualifying groups.

The Fellowes ChicagoWorldCup was created in June 2006 by Sebastien Labat, an European expatriate, who moved to Chicago from France in 2003 for a job opportunity.
While the actual FIFA World-Cup was played in Germany that year, Sebastien wanted to bring back some of the atmosphere of that famous multicultural event in Chicago. He, and all foreign communities, now hope that the actual FIFA World-Cup will return to the Windy City in 2018 after USA announced to be candidate to host the event again.
“Playing in the ChicagoWorldCup is a great way to show the World that Soccer is growing in the US and that Chicago is a great town that deserves not only the Olympics in 2016 but also the FIFA World-Cup back in 2018” says Captain of Team France, Antoine Grand-Clement.

This year, besides the main tournament, an official drawing as well as an official awards presentation will be organized at Chicago Fado Irish Pub, a Wii contest will entertain the crowd on the tournament site, and tons of gifts and giveaways will be distibuted to the players and to the thousands of expected spectators. Spectators donations will be given to the “City of Hope”, institution dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer.
