Renovating a kindergarten and organizing educational activities with local students
June 8 - June 21, 2008
Volunteer project: Sulursari village is located in the Grobogan Regency. It lies on the east part of the Semarang municipality and is surrounded by corn fields. This village is also located in a hilly karstic area, on the south part with oak trees. The local community appreciates the presence of international volunteers and believes in the possibility to improve the centre through the exchange of good practices and ideas with the volunteers. The project site will be in a small local kindergarden school, named TK Pertiwi. The school has only 1 teacher with around 40 students, and is located next to the village’s elementary school.
The volunteers will contribute by painting the kindergarden’s building, and will do small renovations of the playground. The group will also organize some educational activities with the local students.
Study theme: The volunteers will be introduced to the Indonesian culture and customs in general, with a special focus on the Javanese particularities. Some cultural visits are also foreseen.
