Well, our new book is out [http://www.chestnuthillinstitute.com/books/affairs/], with some amazing endorsements, and I say it is "our" book because I couldn't have done it without you. It's WHEN GOOD PEOPLE HAVE AFFAIRS: INSIDE THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF PEOPLE IN TWO RELATIONSHIPS, and it has all the help you could need if you or your partner or anyone you care about has been having an affair. To do this book I needed your input: your thoughts and experiences, everything you wanted other people to know about what you'd been through. And you came through like champs. And I especially want to thank everyone who came up with a title or subtitle that we used. Your ideas were great!

BTW: I'm not the only one to thank you. Everyone who has been and will be helped by this book will thank you too.
"A brilliant project in a beautiful, vibrant city! I would recommend it to everyone. I liked most having parties with the children in the evenings and spending time on the terrace with the other volunteers. I have absolutely loved bonding with children. Learning how to get on living with a group of strangers was important." Natalie, volunteer 2005

"Very worthwhile.
The project helped to improve the quality of life of the children in the orphanage. They seemed very happy to welcome us all to Rila. The project also allowed me to meet new people from all walks of life and to form lasting friendships. I enjoyed taking the children swimming, organising the parties and playing team games such as basketball in the evenings. We were always made to feel welcome by the children. Occasionally we were recognised by the locals and invited to join them! Everybody got on well, was friendly and worked well together.
We did a varies of things with our spare time – eating and drinking out, trips to Blagoevgrad and a weekend away near Rila Monastery.
When people describe conditions in orphanages I can now appreciate and in a small way empathise with what they are saying. The experience has made me determined to participate in future workcamps.
I am grateful for allowing me to see a country through the eyes of those who live there, in this case the least fortunate of all, the children of an orphanage. This worthwhile camp brought smiles to children’s faces and allowed the volunteers to make lasting friendships." Andrew, volunteer 2007
October 13 - October 26, 2008

Pune may not be a cosmopolitan city as Mumbai is, but it is a pleasant getaway for all those who want to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Pune has a calm atmosphere, non-confronting people, and is certainly much more relaxed and peaceful than Mumbai. If you consider Maharashtra as a Marathi speaking state of India, then Pune can undoubtedly be called its capital, with its glorious past and high concentration of Marathi speaking people. Pune is also an internationally renowned educational center, being home to many institutions of repute like Film and Television Institute of India, Armed Forces Medical College, National Defence Academy and Symbiosis Educational Society.

Several schools in Pune need to be upgraded in terms of renovation. Blackboards, the main medium for communication between a teacher and the pupils need to be put in place in several schools. Imparting education to eager children is an extremely rewarding and fruitful challenge. Schools, which for the past fifty years haven't seen a fresh coat of paint, are being helped along the way. Volunteers will actively involve in sharing knowledge with hungry children. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy goes the saying. Several children haven't seen playground furniture such as slides, jungle gyms, etc. Volunteers will help install these at various playgrounds so that children get to release their bubbling cauldron of pent-up energies.

Think of the qualities of a great city - fun, space, clean air, nature, culture - and Reykjavik has them in spades. It has the features of a modern, forward-looking society which are complemented by a close connection to beautiful nature.
The population of the Reykjavik Capital Area is about 200,000. Reykjavik is spread across a peninsula with a panoramic view of the mountains and the Atlantic Ocean on almost all sides. In the summer, you can sit by the harbour at midnight and watch the sun dip slightly below the horizon before it makes its way up again.
The world’s northernmost capital is framed by the majestic Mt. Esja, which keeps a watchful eye on the city, and the blue waters of Faxafloi Bay. On a sunny day, the mystical Snaefellsjokull glacier appears crystal-like on the western horizon, while mountainous moonscapes spread to the southeast.

The volunteers will be hosted by the City of Reykjavik and their tasks are the following: In Reykjavik we have a lot of youngsters who are tagging the houses in the center of the city. We will help the local authorities to clean up those signs and than we will help the youngsters to make their tags or graffiti in places were they are allowed to make their art.
We will do some environmental work in the green areas near to the center of the city.

Study theme: We will have two workshops in this project: Percussion and Photography. The participants will have the chance to learn to play percussions and we will have a professional teacher guiding and teaching the volunteers. We will also have a professional photographer leading the project so participants should bring their cameras to learn how to shoot photos in a better way.
On the 23rd of August, we will join the Cultural night of Reykjavik. We will have the opportunity to perform in the streets that night and also to enjoy this biggest cultural event in Iceland 2008.

This posting is for Liz Martucci a 52 y.o. wife,Mother and Grand Mother who was recently diagnosed with CANCER and has no Medical insurance and has been abandoned by our Government Agencies. She and many others need your help today LETS MAKE A DIFFERENCE VISIT HER SITE AND SIGN HER BOOK AND DONATE IF YOU CAN http://www.lizmartoccilungcancerfoundation.org/ It is my experience that cancer lacks temporal stability. we need the best and aggressive care now with no budget. Just as much as a person would give their life to save another, or take a bullet for another, similarly a person should take a financial risk for another. That is, is it perhaps similar service to go bankrupt to save a life, as it is to die drowning to save a drowning person. We can do several things: 1. Donations 2. Loans (NON AVAILABLE) 3. Spend personal funds (none available) Donations will be the most help, I think we can all see that. Life deals us a set of cards, lets play them well, and utilize available resources in an effort for an optimal outcome with this situation. One life to live. Live to the max. Seize the Day.

As a volunteer in Ayacucho, you will be working at the URPI orphanage. Currently, there are approximately 48 kids in the orphanage with ages ranging from 5-17 years old. However, you will only be dealing with half of the group at a time as half are away at school in the morning and then the other half of the group goes to school in the afternoon. It is important to understand that these boys have come to URPI for a variety of reasons concerning their familial situations; this could include reasons such as death of parents, violence in the home, drug and/or alcohol abuse or imprisonment of parents.

The volunteer work will depend on the skills of the international volunteers, their interests, their specialties.

Spare time activities and interaction with local people: In the workcamps a high interaction with the local population is encouraged, volunteers will share time, work and fun with the local youngsters of the communities and will learn about their way of living, their feelings, the way they see life and also will share with them in an intercultural exchange, very enriching for everybody involved, and also will discover some of the hidden places of Peru not known by tourists. These places are known only by the local people and every week the volunteers with the camp leader will organize spare time activities with the local youngsters.

In the workcamps it is possible to organize circles of conversation in Spanish with local youngsters, with the objective to help the international volunteers to learn Spanish and Quechua and also to share with the Peruvian youngsters your knowledge of English or your native language.

Volunteers needed to help move a sanctuary with over 200 animals to a new location, transporting animals, helping care for and feed them. Some experience with cats, dogs and livestock helpful. Many of these animals were rescued from New Orleans and Hurricane Katrina, many have chronic illnesses or lingering injuries as a result of this, and need extra care and attention. Contact for more details on lodging and location. These lost and abandoned pets depend on your help! And if you can't come down, but would like to donate pet food, coupons, supplies or funds to help with the move, that would be very welcome too! Thank you!

Here's a little more information about the upcoming event:

About Chicago Children's Advocacy Center:
The Chicago Children's Advocacy Center was founded in 1998 on the belief that no one agency or professional alone can prevent and treat child abuse, and a multi-disciplinary response is necessary. The Center houses legal, medical, child protective, law enforcement and social service professionals under one roof. Together, these professionals provide hope and healing to Chicago's abused children every day.

Hugely popular last year, One Brick is returning for more summertime landscaping at the Chicago Children's Advocacy Center!

It's the time of year for weeding, mulching, and a whole lot of time spent outdoors. So be generous with the sunscreen, pull out those gardening clothes, and come on out for a great time!

Other Event Info:
Please note that all One Brick volunteers must be 21 or older.
Volunteer project: Roi-Et is one of the provinces in the North East of Thailand, known between Thais as Isan. The Isan is also one of the regions of Thailand where traditions are preserved and respected; the Isan culture is influenced by Laos and Lao culture. This influence is represented in their special cooking, handicrafts, music and dance and on the typical Muay Thai Boxing.
The Bo Pan Khan site dates back to the bronze era, when it was a main economic centre of the region due to the rock salt that could be found in the soil. Nowadays, the site is virtually abandoned despite efforts of the Thai government in the 90-ies to attract local tourists. Bo Pan Khan is surrounded by water, which is now filled with riverweed.
Environmental and social is the main work of the project. The volunteers will work at Bo Pan Khan to help cutting the riverweed and cleaning around the area, and planting trees or flowers in the garden. The volunteers will also discover the typical Isan culture and traditions, visiting villagers, farmers and local artisans, helping them in their tasks occasionally.
Study theme: The volunteers will learn about the culture of rural Thailand in general and the traditions and specificity of the Isan region. Thai language lessons will also be given to the volunteers.

Volunteer project: Ayurveda is the 5000 years old Indian health care system, widely practiced, in time with the times. "Ayur" in Sanskrit means "life", "Veda" means "science". It is a perfect Science of health and longevity. This holistic science is the knowledge of complete balance of the body, mind and spirit, including the emotions and psychology, on all levels. It includes in its consideration, longevity, rejuvenation and self-realization therapies through herbs, diet, exercise, yoga, massage, aromas, tantras, mantras, and meditation. According to Ayurvedic tradition, health is the balance of elements air, earth, fire, and water, and illness is an excess or deficiency of any particular element. Ayurveda treats illness at its source, rather than at the level of symptoms, and helps an individual to take responsibility for their own health and well being. Ayurveda is also known as 'Ashtanga Veda' (the word literally means 'Eight branches of knowledge') as it is divided into eight specialized branches.

Yoga is a complete science of life that originated in India many thousands of years ago. It is the oldest system of personal development in the world, encompassing the entire body, mind and spirit. It is the union between a person's own consciousness and the universal consciousness. The classical techniques of Yoga date back more than 5,000 years. The word Yoga means "to join or yoke together," and it brings the body and mind together into one harmonious experience.

The volunteers will be learning the Basics of Yoga and Ayurveda in these three weeks of the project. Every day, there will be topics covered by the master (the person in charge of yoga and ayurveda classes), which will be practiced by the volunteers. Yoga will be practiced every day. Apart from that, volunteers will also help at the herbal garden and the nearby school.

Do you care enough to volunteer to spend some time three times a week to find animal -related news to post blog entries on myspace and facebook, or better still create your own blog / website? E.g. see my website/ blog : http://www.Heart4Animals.com

I started updating this website with animal-related news because the more people know what animals go through, the more people will refrain from buying products which will further increase animal suffering e.g. fur / fur-lined outercoats.
