The Cricket Magazine Group is seeking an Associate Editor for ASK magazine, our magazine of science and ideas for 7-10 year olds. This is a full-time, in-house position for a candidate with intermediate experience in the editorial process, in children’s publications, or in science writing. Preferred applicants will demonstrate substantial performance in some or all of the following: content-editing, acquisitions, editorial management, writing for children, science writing, and creative collaboration.
The Cricket Magazine Group is small and informal. We are committed to setting and maintaining the highest standard for children’s nonfiction just as we have for children’s literary periodicals. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of an exceptional family of publications for children.
The Associate Editor takes primary responsibility for content of the magazine (please see www.cricketmag.com), planning issues, researching topics, organizing content of each issue, assigning commissions to writers, content- and copy-editing manuscript, collaborating with the Art Director in developing visual tone, and seeing the material through production. We pride ourselves in our clear presentation of in-depth, serious ideas. ASK is a magazine kids want to read.
