Structural Engineer

I am a self-employed architect in Chicago who is looking for an independent structural consultant to assist in structural analysis and design for small-to-medium residential addition, rehab, and renovation projects throughout Chicagoland, including the City and Suburbs. This is not a full-time position and is being offered on a contract basis only.

Applicants must be energetic, efficient, creative, and communicative – to mirror my work ethic and enthusiasm - and also priced competitively. You must also be licensed in Illinois and have your own AutoCad software. The ability to visit sites will rarely be necessary, but would be a plus.

The way I expect the process to work for each project we do together is that I will provide floor plans and elevations (and maybe some schematic sections, depending on the project) in AutoCad format – already having a framing concept in mind – and then the structural engineering consultant will run an analysis and size framing members and beams, foundations, roof structure, sheer walls, etc. I will only be looking for sketches and calcs in return, no drafting work will be necessary, as I will incorporate the information into my sets and seal it for permits. We will have one or several discussions along the way (phone, in person, email, etc.) to coordinate our efforts to provide the most efficient and cost-effective finished product. At the onset of each project, I will expect a general idea of your cost for the consulting work to relay to the homeowners for approval – we can determine fee proposals and contracts from there.

Applicants can reply to this post with a resume and brief description of themselves, their current workload, their experience, compensation expectations or rates, and how their idea or experience of the process compares to mine as described above. I currently have a few projects in the pipeline where I will need some structural consulting, so apply fast and be prepared to start immediately.

Thanks!
