RESPONSIBILITIES:

�World-class company is seeking an Engineering Manager for its Maryland operation to assume full ownership of their hydraulic-magnetic product design and product development, product/process engineering, tool design and ME/IE, document control, and all test lab/agency support.
�The candidate will supervise a team of 30+ engineers and technicians
�Work closely with marketing to fulfill new product requirements for the marketplace in a timely fashion as well as servicing a variety of product iterations.
�Direct the support for existing products/processes while implementing improvements in quality and efficiency on these existing products
�Analyze technology trends, human resource skill sets and requirements, and market demand to plan projects
�Confer with management, production, and marketing to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products
�Forecast operating costs of department and direct preparation of budget requests.
�Frequently interact with outside customers and functional peer groups at management levels. Interaction normally requires the ability to gain cooperation of others, conducting presentations of technical information concerning specific projects/schedules, etc.
�Responsibilities include scheduling and facilitation of meetings, understanding customer requirements and expectations, and developing/driving actions and schedules needed to support those program expectations. This will require working with cross-functional teams including marketing, materials, and manufacturing operations team.
�The work includes a large variety of configurations with a customer base that demands prompt service. Influencing skills are important as the candidate must leverage others in the organization to complete their goals.

REQUIREMENTS:

�BS/MS ME, Strong comprehension of engineering principles required, and 8-10 years prior work experience, preferably in circuit breaker design
�This position requires a minimum of a Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering (Masters preferred) plus 8-10 years of relevant experience.
�Strong interpersonal skills are needed to work effectively with superiors, subordinates, suppliers, and customers.
�The candidate should have a forward-looking perspective and should be constantly seeking to learn from current activities to drive improvements for the future. The ability to be creative and innovative will assist in developing unique, differentiated solutions to complex problems.
�Success in this position requires good organizational savvy and good team-building and influencing skills; both in working with internal teams and external teams. The candidate will also need to exercise good judgment. He/she should understand their own level of decision-making and also understand when it is important to advise/involve management of difficult complex and high-risk situations.
�Projects will require interaction with multiple functions and multiple manufacturing sites. A strong focus on identifying and developing new products.
�Thorough understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles, materials, and mechanics is a must. Having experience in the following areas are a plus:
�Understanding basic electrical circuit theory
�Understanding of power management systems
�Understanding of process control fundamentals and product test processes
�DMAIC Six Sigma and/or Design for Six Sigma experience
�3-D CAD modeling
�Experience with multiple projects running concurrent and managing dynamic development paths required.
�Team & People Skills: Team leadership and team membership skills are needed coupled with a strong sense of individual responsibility. Working effectively with other organizations (quality, marketing, purchasing, product support engineering, suppliers, and customers) is critical. The candidate must be able to influence others.
�Projects & Deliverables: The candidate must show evidence of successful participation in team-based project work and the ability to fill multiple roles. The candidate must possess the ability to understand higher-level aspect of a project and take responsibility for items outside their direct control
�Travel less that 10% of time to manufacturing sites in Mexico and China as well as to customers.
