CTO for Software Start-Up (Chicago, IL)

Summary:

We are looking for a technical leader with a hunger to build something important and lasting as an equity partner for our software/internet startup. The product helps make the process of calling a call center for customer support or technical assistance more pleasant and relevant to the caller and more profitable for the call centers, by giving call center agents a data-driven software tool to improve their performance. We have designed the broad outlines of the product and have our first customers; now is our time to develop, prototype, and deliver code.

We envision building a high-performance SaaS software service customized from off-the-shelf components; deployed rapidly to get to our first revenue as fast as possible.

Responsibilities and Qualifications:

We require a technological leader who can both execute a vision (code) and be a partner contributing to the start-up’s success in the areas of sales, marketing, strategy, etc. To be successful, the CTO must be able to execute on a shoestring, and be as much a great coder and do-er as a manager. We will build as much of the infrastructure as makes sense, and also outsource to be as cost-effective as possible.

We need someone who is familiar with the full software lifecycle, including documenting business requirements, prototyping, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining. We do not expect the CTO to be able to do everything, but to know what excellence looks like, and how to produce it and lead others.

The CTO will determine the technical platform for the product, which must make business sense for the whole organization; he or she should have 5+ years of diverse software development and database experience. The SaaS application requires that a web page be displayed as driven out of a database.

The product is a database-driven internet application which will likely use such technologies as Java, Ruby/Rails, AJAX, PHP/MySQL, or ASP.NET/SQL Server. The application will need to be highly scalable and tuned for high performance, and deployed in a cloud-based server environment.

Strong preference is given to those local to Chicago. Must already be qualified to work in the United States.

Selection Process:

Please send a resume with a cover letter which details your relevant experience and why you think this job might be for you. For qualified candidates, we will send a summary of the business plan and a description of the product and the corporate culture/operating environment we envision creating. We will be conducting interviews in Chicago. At that time, we will ask you to present a technical vision and your ideas as to how you would use a budget to develop the product.

Compensation:

The company is a startup, and no-one will draw monetary compensation until our cash flow is established … with quick development and aggressive deployment, first revenues should come within 2-3 months. Compensation is in the form of an equity stake, and eventually a salary.
