Sol Garnier started to play the drums in France at The Conservatory. He studied classical percussion there for three years while attending the music section in highschool and being part of a rock band (Doctor Fox) and a circus (Cirque Plume). He went to Berklee College of Music for two years and studied all styles of music with Skip Hadden (Weather Report), Tommy Campbell (Sonny Rollins) and many others. Residing in Chicago since 1991, he played with J.P and the Cats (former band of Jimmy Chamberlain of the Smashing Pumpkins), Michael Charles (Australian Blues celebrity) and has been the house drummer for the church "Our Lady of the Wayside" in Arlington Heights for four years. Besides playing the drums, his passion is teaching. He is an avid reader of any teaching book he can find.
Style of music taught: Rock, Jazz, Latin, Blues, Heavy Rock, Country, Reggae, Hip-hop, Gospel, Punk, etc.
Levels taught: All. From brand new beginners to heavy duty professionals.

My philosophy
Teaching should not be like filling up a vase but like lighting up a fire. Once the student is motivated, he will do the job of studying. I have been applying this philosophy for more than 18 years with great results. Not only do I enjoy the benefit of a waiting list (sign of a healthy business), but I can see week after week my pupils getting more and more excited about the lessons. Teachers who lost their heart for the craft seems to be all too common. My biggest fear is that my people are going to get bored. In order to avoid that, I will use the help of my extensive CD collection. I will play the piano while they try on a new exercise. I will make up games. I will give them clear assignments. I will show them tricks to practice. I will joke to make them relax. I will use the knowledge of a whole library dedicated to teaching to make the journey of learning drums an exciting adventure.
