Summary:

Showcasing work from the artists of our online creative community, The Whole 9 Gallery is seeking artists & photographers for our upcoming nudes show, �Unveiled�. This show opens late January and will be up for approximately six weeks. In the past, we have featured artists like Jeanne Griffin and Hugh Hamilton . We offer a 60 artist / 40 gallery split and a beautiful gallery in Culver City.

To submit yourself, you must visit us , create a portfolio (there�s no cost and you get your own url) with a minimum of 6 pieces of your work and then email submissions@thewhole9.com with a link to your TW9 portfolio.

This is the ONLY way to submit yourself for this show.

If you already have a portfolio on The Whole 9, please update it to include relevant work and email us the link.

It�s crazy how quickly a little good work turns into a LOT of good work. Our small river north agency has been looking ahead to 2010 and, I�ll be honest, we�re starting to sweat a little. So we�re on the prowl for some serious talent. You know you�re getting swamped when �all hands on deck� means the copy guy is selecting photos and sketching layouts (and, trust me, I can�t sketch).

What I�m trying to say is, we need help. Art Director help. Pronto.

Now � before you get too excited and hit reply, let me just tell you a bit more about what you�d be getting yourself into. Gigs like this aren�t exactly for everybody.

First of all, you�ll need experience. Relevant, verifiable art direction experience � cranking out rock-solid marketing concepts, airtight layouts, and wicked designs for clients of all kinds�with flare and efficiency. We�re not talking about the uninspired execution of someone else�s bright ideas. We�re looking for a proven capacity to develop big ideas of your own � coupled, of course, with the discipline and technical skills to pull them off.

Secondly, talent matters. Doing something and doing it WELL are two different things. In other words, your book has to look good�overflowing with fundamentally sound design decisions and evidence of some truly original thinking. By the way, can you write your own headlines, too? Show us those. How�s your production knowledge? Any client-facing experience? Do you have any new media or Flash design skills? Multi-talented generalists will get more consideration here than single-minded specialists, so if you have other skills, don�t be afraid to brag a little.

Third, versatility is critical to success. Our project docket is an all-you-can-eat buffet of pretty much anything you can imagine. Healthy portions of both B2B and B2C for starters, then a steady diet of print, interactive, direct, outdoor, and broadcast. So you�ll definitely need an iron stomach and an appetite for variety, because being an Art Director here is, for lack of a better analogy, like a box of chocolates.

Finally, what motivates you? That�s not a trick question. Think about it.

I�ll tell you what motivates us. Rocking our clients� worlds with out-of-this-world creative. We�re passionate perfectionists who take an enormous amount of pride in the work we produce. It�s in our DNA to over-deliver. Or perhaps it�s simply because creative types are desperately seeking approval at all times. Whatever�s at the root of it, the bottom line is we need motivated people who can jump right in and be the ball. Unlike at some of the megalithic Michigan Avenue overhead emporiums, there�s no place to get lost in the shuffle or hide out here.

What am I forgetting? Well, naturally you�re going to have a strong knowledge of Quark, PhotoShop and Illustrator, etc. � the essential tools of your trade. And please don�t say you do if you don�t � the skills test catches everyone in the end. Only kidding, of course (as far as you know).
