This is a cover band that performs all different styles of popular music ranging from classic/modern/alternative rock, reggae, blues, pop, punk, ska, oldies, soul/mo-town, 80's, funk, R&B, hip hop, etc.

I have 1 female vocalist, 1 male vocalist, I play both guitar and keyboards, our current bassist, drummer, trombone player, sax player and our sound guy.

We are in the final stages of our start-up process and expect to be gigging within the next month or two.

We are currently finishing a recording and in turn completing our various websites.

I expect to start gigging at a slow, but gradual pace. 1-2 shows a month to start and as we progress I'm hoping we will be playing at the very least once a week.

I'd like to get into weddings, festivals, corporate events/parties, however we will start out playing bars/clubs...whatever I can find to make money for the group.

I have charts for all the various songs which feature horns and I intend for us to do our own arrangement on some songs that don't necessarily have horns in the original.

We are looking for a versatile and experienced bassist who not only knows their theory, but knows how to apply it.

I do not care about your age. As long as you are the calibur player we are looking for and have the availability then let's make this happen.

I need someone who can commit to rehearsal at least one day a week and be there for our shows.

We do intend to use our current bassist as a sub and we are still currently playing with him. He's a good guy and a great player, but he is a jobber and is in like 4 or 5 bands which means booking shows is going to be a nightmare for me. We've got 40 something songs that we are playing and there is certainly a lot to catch up on, but it's nothing a solid player couldn't handle.

The sky is the limit. Help me make this band successful.

I'm 26, I play guitar and piano. I've been playing since I was very young. I went to the Musician's Institute in Hollywood, CA. In the past, all of my bands have been mainly original. I am currently managing and playing in an all out cover band. The drummer of this group (age 27) and myself are putting together an all original group.

We are both solid, experienced and versatile players with pro equipment. I have a P.A. system (24 track Mackie board). I write all different styles of music and I like to incorporate different styles of music in my writing. My only set back as a song writer is that I am an average singer in that my range is limited.

We're a singer and drummer, one in late 20s and one approaching 20, looking for guitar players and a bass player to start an original hard rock band that will play some covers. We want to try a variety of stuff in an attempt to give us the best foundation possible. Neither of us is a member of any particular subculture, nor do we treat music in a dogmatic way. We see ourselves as musicians first and foremost. Both of us are very serious and willing to practice 1-2 times a week.

We both have well over $1500 each invested in gear and we can catch onto songs quite quickly. Both of us can play in time and go beyond that by adding our own creativity to a piece. Singer has a range similar to and is influenced by Alice Cooper, Mustaine(Megadeth), Halford(Judas Priest), King Diamond, Stiv Bators(Dead Boys), David Gilmour(Pink Floyd), Michael Monroe(Hanoi Rocks), Manson, Chuck Billy(Testament), Don Dokken, Axl Rose, and Paul Di'Anno(Iron Maiden). We are absolutely not interested in metalcore/hardcore type screaming and singing. Drummer can do a variety of styles. Playing classic hard rock and metal from the 70s and 80s, to softer genres and all the way to Rammstein and industrial.

We've been jamming at sonic palace in oak park, an hourly place. If you have a jam spot, we are definitely very open to jamming there. Otherwise the spot has to be accessible by cta or metra if you dont want to use oak park. Everyone needs to share in expenses from the start. We need serious people, not typical indecisive CL flakes. People serious enough that they don't balk at contributing $5 or so if we jam at an hourly place the first time. As for what to jam on the first time, well it all depends on what you know. Neither of us plays guitar, so, if you only learn one or two songs, that's all we can really play. If other auditionees come down, we will let you know what songs they have in their repetoire in case you feel like learning them.

Ideally we'd like to get a few covers down as a band. We're willing to listen to suggestions, but generally we're looking to play covers by bands featuring the abovementioned singers. It's pretty imperative that we delve into some covers, for a lot of the reasons suggested in many of these fine CL "chicago scene" posts lately. They're right about the market wanting them and that a lot of people dive into originals prematurely. Right now we have one guitarist that we jammed with once who says he is coming back. We were playing songs by Judas Priest, Dokken, and Hanoi Rocks. Even if he departs, we think those are good cover choices.

We do have some original songs written with various people that could be something if spruced up with an actual band.

First of all I have played the drums for over 58 years. I learned to play all types of music, from Jazz, to blues, light rock, country, swing, new age, latin, big band etc. I had extensive training when I was young at the conservatory of music. At the age of 14 years old I played down on rush street, old town and recognized places, never any dives, never would play for the door. I was playing 6 days a week and held a regular job, playing every type of music known to man and played it all well. I was recognized by the William Morris agency when I was 18 years of age and was the first white drummer to ever walk into Chess records where they did a recording of me and paid 100% of the recording. I toured as a fill in drummer where ever they needed me to play everything and anything and played it all well. I love anytime of music, didn't caqre what it was as l;ong as I made money at it. Right now I have over 20,000.00 in professional equipment, I bought out of my own money, all top of the line stuff. I practice on an average day, every day 4 hours to create new beats and practice my rudiments daily.
There is still a lot of money to be made in this buisiness, don't kid yourself, BUT you have to be willing to do whatever it takes to make it. Example: Someone calls you up to play a wedding gig, they want to hear the oldies but goodies music, plus a little swing tunes. You as a musician can you do them? I mean the gig pays you 300.00 bucks a person, what you tell them no cause I don't like that music. you just lost the job. You go to a night club that pays you 125.00 bucks a person, they want to hear standards, maybe rock standards, maybe oldies, maybe country, What do you tell them No, Im not into it ?
Lesson learned from years of playing, you play what you want to hear in the basement of your home, if thats originals or just anything you might be into. You plaqy what the people want to hear when they hire you, remember your providing a service to the people, not a service for yourself. I have nothing against original, I think it is great that musicians are creative, but there are 0ver 500,000 bands into original music that pays nill to nothing, just cause they would like to be a star and get noticed. The reason you really get noticed is for your musical ability and being able to take a recorded song from an original artist and braking it apart to show you can be just as talented as he is or can create somjethying that is even better then he did. Then when you can do that, you can throw in some of your original music, maybe two songs a set. Remember your suppose to be a musician not a CD, take your talent and show the people what they want to hear but in your style of playing,. without copying note for note from the CD.
One more thing ! How do you make money on tour, very simple, one, is you do not play for peanuts, two, if you are good enough musician they will offer you a good wage for your talents, like they have always offered me, it's called creativeness, not greatness, usually when a person is great at music, is because they only know how to play one style of music. IM not great drummer I would consider my self a good drummer that can play everything and anything with a lot of dynamics. Last thing is bar owners & the public hire you because of the following you bring to the clubs or events you are playing at. If you ignore what they want to hear, that won't invite you back, rest assured on that, not unless you play for nothing & that is something I never believed in cause I know IM good and will put on a good show.

-We are a guitar / bass combo (both age 26) that is seeking a drummer and singer to complete a professional, original band. The two of us have consistently played together in various bands for the last ten years. This experience is reflected in the quality of our songwriting, musicianship, and performance skills.

Currently, we have about 15 songs written that are awaiting the right drum and vocal parts. We would ideally like to be involved in a collaborative effort, rather than a "here's how it's going to be" approach to songwriting and production.

We rehearse twice a week for free near the Elston and Western intersection. Our short term goal for this band is to play one or two in town shows a month in addition to a few out of town gigs.

Chameleon World is an eight-piece rock band built around Ray St. Ray, the Singing Cab Driver, and we're currently looking for a guitarist to fill out our ranks after a year of pinch-hitters. We're currently playing about 50 songs, all written by The Singing Cab Driver as he drives his cab around the streets of Chicago. You join the rest of the band in coming up with rad arrangements and playing live approx. twice a month. Stylistic playing is far more important than wanky technique, but reading music (or at least charts) helps. The weather is getting cool now. We will all be spending more time indoors. So why not make that time productive? This is the perfect time to get yourself, or your kid, into piano or voice lessons!

My Wicker Park music studio is open - I teach piano for all ages and levels, and voice lessons for beginner and intermediate singers.

My approach to teaching music is fairly standard for young and beginning students. For adults and more advanced young folks, the curriculum is designed individually to meet the needs and desires of the student. Whether that desire is a focus on classical, folk, pop, sacred music; whether it be performance, composition, theory, ear training - all students will work on a well-rounded set of musical skills in genres that interest them.

I teach out of my home studio, and I can also teach in your own home for a slightly higher rate.

A bit about me. I am a keyboard player, singer, percussionist with 35 years of experience, in a wide variety of genres:

- 25 years in church music, and 12 of those as a church music director
- 7 years directing mens a cappella choruses
- 10 years singing in an a cappella quartet
- 10 years directing orchestras for musical theater
- 15 years performing for musical theater

I'm a patient teacher, and I require a diligent work ethic in my students. I have a heart for teaching, and am inspired by seeing my students excel.

Lessons are either 30, 45, or 60 minutes, with reasonable rates and discounts when paying for a month's worth of sessions.

The ability to play a musical instrument is one of the most profoundly rewarding skills one can possess. The language of music is a universal one, and to be able to communicate to and with others through music is an opportunity that everyone should be given.
I've been playing guitar for over fifteen years now. I have taught many people to play guitar and it's something that I enjoy doing very much. I believe the best teachers are the ones who consider themselves to be good students as well. Once one decides that they are "masters" at their instrument, that is when they have, perhaps unknowingly, decided that the learning period has come to an end. Of course, any good musician knows that music is a journey, not a destination, and the real masters are the ones who realize that there is always something beyond themselves, and continue to chase after it. In teaching, I always give room for the opportunity to learn myself. Part of doing that is allowing you to be the kind of musician you want to be, and simply offering help along the way. Sure we will go over chords, scales, time signatures, exercises, technique...etc., but what is it you REALLY want to do? Learn how to play some songs, and maybe even begin to write music of your own,right?! That's what I wanted to do more than anything when I started playing. To this day, two of my favorite things to do on guitar are 1: Write my own music and 2: Listen to a new song I really like and figure out what those guys are doing, and learn it myself!
So, bring me your music, bring your guitar or bass, we'll listen to songs, break them down, and figure them out together! Through our lessons, not only will you become a better guitar player, but you'll learn basic and advanced song structure so you can start writing your own music and also develop an ear for picking out notes and chords in the music you love, and ascertain the ability to figure out those songs for yourself!

Each lesson is $10/half an hour, or $15/hour.
