The guys who brought you the Open Mic Night at Champs in
Morton Grove, and Flatlanders in Lincolnshire before that,

to those who have come out and joined the jams, as well as
those who have come out to enjoy what happens when talent
and opportunity collide (and spontaneously combust), our
friends at the Village expanded the Open Jam Night to EVERY
TUESDAY NIGHT! Tonight, Tuesday, May 13th, Jim, James and
Steve will again host the jam at this cozy, family-friendly, Skokie
landmark. Starting around 9:00, solo, duo and acoustic acts are
welcomed to the stage first, then as the evening progresses, we
get more electrified and bring on friends to jam or other bands to
take over for a while. By 11:00, the joint is jumping full throttle and
we're rockin' 'til we drop! Several new artists have been showcasing
some fine original compositions, while others have put their own spin on
classics. The nights have all concluded with some good 'ol "blow the doors
down" rock from The Rolling Stones, REO Speedwagon, The Who, Van Halen,
KISS, Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin. It's been GREAT fun -- thank you to all who
have helped us grow this jam session into something special.

Please tell your friends, spread the word, and come out for a surprisingly fun night
of impromptu music performed by a who's who of the local music circuit. PA system
with mics, one guitar amp, one bass amp and a drum set will be on site for use by all;
you will need to bring your axe and amp if necessary, and your own sticks.

Team Band's current drummer is moving to NYC, and so we are now

We have shows lined up and great press, including recently being
called one of the top ten must see newer bands in Chicago by Jim
DeRogatis in the Sun-Times.

What we need is a skilled drummer who knows how to rock, keep time,
and not over-play. We like to practice twice a week to work on our
live set and write material. This summer and fall we would like to
play out of the city, perhaps going to England.

We are a good group of musicians and friends, we work really well together and we are looking to fill our last slot and complete the band!

We are looking for someone in our age range (20-26), someone that is talented, that is able & willing to practice 2-3 times a week. We need someone that is also going to be available for gigs once we get a good set. What we really don't want is someone with an EGO, or anyone that is already in a band(unless your planing on leaving), everyone in the band right now are really good friends and thats what we are looking for.

We are trying to bring good rock back to the world! Our sound is hard to pinpoint but it is similar to Velvet Revolver, or Operator. Just to note, we are NOT a cover band, we are writing our own music, but we may learn some covers to fill in our set list at gigs. If you have a PA, that is a plus, we currently do not have one, but can rent one out for any audition or gig.

Why is the promoters ordinance bad???

The �Event Promoters� ordinance requires any event promoter to have a license from the city of Chicago and liability insurance of $300,000 per event, but that�s just the start:

1) The definition of �event promoter� is so loosely defined it could apply to a band that books its own shows or a theater company that�s in town for a one-week run.

2) �Event Promoter� must be licensed and will pay $500�$2000 depending on expected audience size.

3) To get the license, applicant must be over 21, get fingerprinted, submit to a background check, and jump over several other hurdles.

4) This ordinance seems targeted towards smaller venues, since those with 500+ permanent seats are exempt.

5) Police must be notified at least 7 days in advance of event.

6) Try getting $300,000 in liability insurance as a promoter of an indie show or dance club event. If one can it will be prohibitively expensive and you won't see smaller independent events. Say hello to places like Excalibur.

The sort of events that will be affected:

Here are some examples of the kinds of musical events that might be affected under the proposed �promoter�s ordinance.�

� The Nocturna dark alternative dance nights at Metro.

� Chicago Acoustic Underground shows at various venues around the city.

� The Chicago Independent Radio Project�s annual Record Fair.

� The International Pop Overthrow Festival at the Abbey Pub, the Elbo Room, Double Door and other local clubs.

� The Tomorrow Never Knows Festival at Schuba�s.

� Small events where the lines between musician and organizer/promoter are blurred.

This is what the Metro/Smart Bar has to say about the ordinance:

Metro/Smart Bar asks you to oppose the Promoters Ordinance, which would require independent promoters to get licenses to promote events. Under the proposed law, independent promoters would have to acquire a promoter's license at a cost of up to $2000 every two years, obtain liability insurance for every event thrown, even if the presenting venue already has liability insurance, be fingerprinted and background checked, and maintain extensive records of each event.

Metro / Smart Bar believes that this ordinance is unnecessary, as current regulation of PPA licenses and safety and security guidelines are sufficient. The ordinance also unfairly singles out small venues and venues without seating, with no justification for during so. The goal for any additional regulation should be enforcement of current laws and punishment of those who do not obey them, not increased burdens on existing businesses. Additionally, the Promoters Ordinance would negatively affect the Chicago music community. First, it would affect the bottom line of small businesses like Metro and Smart Bar, who make a significant portion of revenue from partnerships with reputable, incident-free independent promoters. Second, losing independent promoters means Chicago music fans would lose out on many small niche events important to minority groups. Third, restricting independent promoters would drastically cut into the ability to do charitable and political benefit concerts at Metro, as it would no longer be financially feasible for non-profit organizations to organize these events.

TAKE ACTION TODAY - Please email or call your alderman or alderwoman and voice your opposition to the Ordinance today! Email or Call your alderman and ask him or her to oppose the Promoter Ordinance. Be polite. Tell him or her you support live music in Chicago, and feel this ordinance would kill many great events. Say you want venues to be safe, but this ordinance goes too far. I am a singer/guitarist that is putting together a James Taylor Tribute show.
I do the vocals and playing of James Taylor and I have an excellent keyboardist as well.
I would be interested in booking festivals mostly. I would make a demo. Then I would shop it around. Once I get a gig I would let you know and provide you with a list of the JT songs we are doing. We would practice a few times and then do the gig. That is how it would work. I am just looking for a bass player and a drummer willing to commit to learning 20-25 James Taylor songs, and then be on call for when I get the gig. I just went through and emailed every single Alderman, I attached all their emails at the bottom, you should do the same at least.

I reposted a bulliten from a friend that explains this the best I've seen so far.

So, as I'm sure many of you know from the amount of posting and emailing done over this last weekend...we're kind of screwed!
There is an oridance set to cripple music promotion in this city. Which in turn will cripple small venues.

WHATS HAPPENING:
This Wednesday, led by 47th Ward Alerman Gene Schulters committee, an ordinance is being voted on by the city council (50 alderman) that will require all promoters who organize a show (even if its a benefit) to pay a $500 to $2000 promoters licensing fee to the city of Chicago.

Oh, and they would now need a $300,000 insurance policy too...

WHAT THIS MEANS:
This basically means you have to go with a promoter who can pay that annual fee easily to get a show together.

Unless you really want to use your stimulus package to become a "promoter", you'll have to cough up a lot of money, time, and patience to start promoting in this city.

What can we do...?

Well, I live in Schulters 47th. I have faxed, called, and emailed their office today. I talked to their policy person, Beth, and made my views known. They make it seem like they have the votes, and this is almost a done deal.

Word is that since this has "been in committee for over a year", no one can stall this vote from being on Wednesday. It can NOT be called out for more public hearings or argued in any way.

That means we have until Wednesday to call all of our alderman and ask them to:

"OPPOSE THIS ORDINANCE"
but ask nicely :)

Ask for their 'policy advisors', their 'chief of staff', even the Alderman themselves...(some of them answer the phone)
They key is to get someone on the phone, at least have them call you back. leave your name, your address, your number. email them. they have to compile them for the alderman.

Do something about this, this is our last shot...

Basically we are a good group, we work really well together and we are looking for that last link in the chain to finish up the band!

We are looking for someone in our age range (20-25), someone that is talented, that is able & willing to practice 2-3 times a week. We need someone that is also going to be available for gigs once we get a good set. What we really don't want is someone with an EGO, or anyone that is already in a band(unless your planing on leaving), everyone in the band right now are really good friends and thats what we are looking for.

We are trying to bring good rock back to the world! Our sound is very much like Velvet Revolver, or Operator. Just to note, we are NOT a cover band, we are writing our own music, but we may learn some covers to fill in our set list at gigs. If you have a PA, that is a plus, we currently do not have one, but can rent one out for any audition or gig.

My great grandfather died last week and he bequethed me his drum. It's amazing. It's actually vast. It has a thirty-two foot circumfrence. He designed it himself. When I was a kid we went to his home in Kennewick, Tennessee and all my family members played this drum at the same time. It was a madhouse and a blast! You could hear it all the way in Blake County. For a while he lent it to Kennewick High School and they used it in the marching band.

I want to bring back the joy I felt those days and reanimate it to this One Drum Band. I'm gonna call it The Beat Goes On. Anyway, I'm looking for a team of crack drummers because I want this to be Sandy Nelson times ten.

I'd like it to sound like two drummers are playing when two drummers are playing.

Skill level isn't as important as being a good listener, knowing when to over/underplay.

You should agree that:
-"goat"-era jesus lizard is our led zeppelin.
-the two-drummer melvins is a miserable disappointment.
-pan sonic is heavier than most of what passes for metal.

Hey guys,

We are a established metal band from the chicago suburbs. Our specific style would more or less be described as thrashy/death/progressive/technical mix of metal. Our influences would be:
Death, Children of Bodom, Lamb of God, Symphony X, Dream Theater, Morbid Angel, Testament, Pantera, Annihilator, Slayer, Into Eternity, Dimmu Borgir, pretty much any good metal.

We are looking for a vocalist!!

- Ladies, unless you can sing like Angela Gossow, don't bother, sorry
-Hopefully over 21, not required but very much preferred.
- Your style will most likely be harsh vocals (screams, growls, howls, whatever you want to call them) but if you can scream and do melodic clean vocals that is AWESOME!
-Uniqueness! Please do not be a carbon copy of someone. Be unique, and bring something interesting to the table!
-Must have transportation to practice AT LEAST once a week, and for gigs whenever they happen.
-Hopefully able to write lyrics for new material in a timely fashion (please, don't take 2 months to write one song. Please.)
- You must be a MUSICIAN. Know how rhythm works, make your vocal patterns and melodies interesting.
-Must be able to contribute to the band financially. We don't ask a lot. T- shirts every few months, some cash for a hotel on out of town shows, maybe bring some beer with you to practice (not required, haha)
- Don't be straight edge. You WILL NOT get along with us. No problem with straight edge people, but you won't fit with us.
- Most importantly, be cool. Get along with us, hang out, have some beers when there are not band activities going on.
- We will have lyrics for some of our older material that we will want to keep the same (so we don't have to change everything we have done in the past few years with names and whatnot) but we have newer material that we would want some NEW FRESH lyrics for, and new songs as we pump them out.

We are a laid back group of guys, we love having fun, but when it comes down to music we put everything we have into it. We play technical music, and we need a singer who can compliment what we write.
