General Summary: A Research Technician for a busy lab involved in innovative translational research. Duties include but are not limited to overall lab maintenance, assistance with experiments involving clinical samples, tissue culture, and molecular biology techniques. Successful incumbent will have the opportunity to work on his own project under direction of fellows and/or the PI. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Assist the PI with general lab management. Conducts experiments under direction of the PI and fellows of the lab. Participates in discussions, lab meetings. Carries out and is individually responsible for his separate sub-project. Maintains contacts with clinical collaborators. Orders supplies. Processes clinical samples and maintains plasma bank. Assists with tissue culture and molecular biological experiments and performs them independently. Writes reports using Electronic Laboratory Notebook and Microsoft Office software. Maintains laboratory in working order.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: This position is for a responsible person, who can learn quickly, adapt easily, and loves challenges. Knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques and tissue culture techniques is essential. BS with 1-2 yr experience or MS is preferred. Amiable personality is a plus; the incumbent will work with two-four fellows and will interact with multiple clinical collaborators, suppliers, and vendors. Will be comfortable with computers because all lab documentation will be electronic. Knowledge of database maintenance is a plus. Must be a “can-do” person.
