Riverside Publishing, a division of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, seeks experienced freelance assessment specialists in Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and English Language Arts and Reading.
Duties:
1. Content writing and editing according to specifications;
2. Alignment of assessment items to state standards and state curricula;
3. Construction and review of test forms;
4. Participation in product review meetings and client meetings;
5. Development and review of test ancillary materials.
6. Other duties may include: creating item and passage (for ELA/Reading) assignments; performing QA reads of passages, items and forms; fact checking; gathering content from public domain sources; preparation of test content for committee reviews.
Required Education:
BA/BS in elementary or secondary education from an accredited four-year university, OR
BA/BS in a liberal arts field (e.g., English, mathematics, biology, history) from an accredited four-year university
Required Experience:
Minimum of 2 years teaching and/or curriculum experience at grades K-12
Minimum of 1 year writing and editing educational content for grades K-12
Minimum of 1 year experience performing some or all of the duties listed above
Required Skills:
Expert knowledge of subject matter
Proven ability to interact as part of a team
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in spoken and written form
Proven ability to effectively manage timelines and competing priorities
Proficiency in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
BA/BS and MA/MS in specific subject area (as applicable to job duties)
5 years or more teaching and/or curriculum experience at grades K-12
2-3 years in writing and editing educational content for grades K-12
2 or more years in performing some or all of the duties listed above
Ability to assume leadership roles with minimal training
