Up & Coming Theatre Company (UAC) proudly presents the Chicago-land community theatre premier of �The Producers,� adapted by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan from Brooks� 1968 film of the same name. UAC Theatre�s production is directed by Susan Hamel, with Music Direction by Thomas Stirling and Choreography by Jennifer Cupani.

�The Producers,� made famous by Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, tells the story of Max Bialystock as he conspires with the reluctant accountant Leo Bloom to produce a flop that will make the both of them rich. However, it all goes wrong when their show, �Springtime for Hitler� is a big success. Fresh off the recent national tour of �Gypsy�, the cast stars Nicholas Hamel in the pivotal role of Max. Leo is played by local Schaumburg resident, Bob Spidale. Playing the cross-dressing role of Roger DeBris is John B. Boss who has played the Genie in �Aladdin� and Barnaby in �Babes in Toyland� in national tours. Also featured is Sara Malloy, who was recently featured in Drury Lane�s production of Singing In The Rain. Rounding out the cast is Anthony Berg who walked over 500 miles from Boston to Washington D.C. on last season�s ABC Television reality series "Fat March".

Up and Coming Theatre, a non-profit company, was established in 1992 and targets donating proceeds to select local charities. Past charities include: Sav A Pet, Palatine Senior Citizens Council, HIVCO, Season of Concern, and The Little City Foundation. Proceeds from �The Producers� will benefit the Community Education District 214 Foundation. UAC �s mission is to provide professional level performances with equal regard to music, voice, dancing, and acting. �We wanted to provide opportunities both on stage and with leadership positions to those who would normally not be offered those chances,� says Mr. Bermudez. �We have given opportunities to music directors, choreographers and performers when they were only 18 years old and just beginning their theater training. Later some of them became professional artists in their own right, and they credit us with giving them their first break.� UAC gives audiences a chance to see tomorrow�s stars today. Mr. Bermudez continues, �In this case, we have a director who has previously not worked in the area and this show marks their debut in the community. I think what is special about Up and Coming Theatre is the genuine passion that runs throughout the group. We�re committed to high quality performances.� UAC provides challenges to these artists through teamwork, cooperation, and constant support and encouragement.

We are meeting at Dunkin' Donuts in Huntley on Thursday, October 9 @ 5pm!

The American Cancer Society heard our concerns that there was a need to have a Relay For Life in our area of Huntley and/or Woodstock.

I am happy to share that in 2009 there will be a Relay For Life of Northern Fox Valley. Exact details are still being worked on but tentatively the Relay will take place in Huntley, IL on June 5-6 of 2009.

I would like to extend the invitation for those wanting more information or to be involved on the steering committee to attend a meeting on October 9th at 5 p.m at the Dunkin' Donuts on Route 47 in Huntley. The Women. Identity. Purpose (WIP) organization was formed 2 years ago (and became recognized by the federal government as a true 501c3 organization a little over 1 year ago), to address the needs of "working poor" single mothers. Working poor mothers are those mothers who earn less than $40,000 a year in annual income and are supporting one or more children. As products of single parent homes, the founders of this organization can, first hand, relate to the challenges that single mothers face in caring for their families as well as their personal well being. Currently, WIP has two locations (chapters): Chicago, IL and Memphis, TN.

The Chicago chapter of WIP is having its first annual bowl-a-thon fundraiser for the Chicago area on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at AMF Lanes in Schaumburg, IL. The Memphis Chapter will have its first walk-a-thon fundraiser on Saturday, November 1, 2008 as well. In May of 2009, using the monies raised via the bowl-a-thon, the walk-a-thon, and other fundraising activities, WIP will give out the VERY FIRST monetary awards (called the Grady-McKnight awards) to one or more deserving single mothers to allow them to go to school to advance their education OR start a business to help their families.

Robert and Sue Carmichael were looking forward to the birth of their third child when tragedy struck. Sue gave birth to baby Daniel on July 10, 2008. Shortly after, Sue encountered a serious medical complication and died on July 14, 2008. Tragically, Sue left behind her husband, Robert, son Robyn, daughter Alexandra, and infant son, Daniel.

Unfortunately, there was no insurance for funeral or hospital expenses. This family is in desperate need of financial aid to get back on their feet. Proceeds from this benefit will go directly toward Nicholas' care. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Shriners Hospital. We are also seeking donations of raffle prizes and silent auction items. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Nicholas was born 1/6/06 with an extremely rare condition called TAR Syndrome. TAR stands for Thrombocytopenia (low platelets), Absent Radius. Platelets are the components in blood that assist in clotting when you have an injury. Where a normal person�s platelet count is 100,000 or above, Nicholas� platelet count at birth was 5,000. TAR syndrome has been diagnosed in only approximately 250 people in the United States in the last 35 years.

Nicholas spent the first 5 days of his life in the NICU at Loyola University Medical Center. After being home for 2 days, he developed an allergy to his formula and was airlifted to Children�s Memorial Hospital where he spent 9 days on an IV. He was then transferred back to Loyola and placed on a special formula before coming home on January 30th 2006.

Nicholas is missing the radius bone in both of his arms and his hands are clubbed. This will require several surgeries in order to both lengthen his arms as well as centralize his hands. These surgeries will be done as he gets older at Shriners� Hospital in Chicago.

As a result of this syndrome, Nicholas was also missing the lower bones in his left leg at birth. He had an ankle and a foot which were amputated when he was just over a year old. When the surgery healed, he was fitted for a prosthesis. He currently goes to physical therapy twice a week in order to learn to walk on the prosthesis. He is now on his second prosthesis and will probably require one new one per year as he continues to grow. The prosthetics are provided by Scheck and Siress in partnership with Shriners Hospital.

Nicholas� first year saw him admitted to the hospital 7 times. He had a central line placed in his chest for blood draws and transfusions. Then when he got a little bigger they placed a port in his chest under his skin for the same reason. The first few months he was getting a platelet transfusion about once per week. He currently has blood draws done about every six to eight weeks to check the status of his platelets and has not needed a transfusion since last November. His blood counts have to be watched very carefully when he gets sick as any illness seems to make his platelets drop to dangerous levels.

Nicholas� future care requirements will include several arm surgeries, physical therapy and occupational therapy following those surgeries, and an aide once he goes to school. In addition, our bathroom will need to be outfitted with a walk in tub, a bidet, and safety bars for accessibility.

Despite Nicholas� physical challenges he is a normal, happy, active toddler who is into everything and loves to climb. He is a constant source of joy to everyone he meets and almost always has a smile on his face.
