Under general supervision, an Orthodontic Assistant provides quality patient care; assuring that all patients are treated professionally with respect and understanding. Assist the Orthodontist with treatment procedures in accordance with the following guidelines:



• Chair side assisting, preparing and maintaining dental instruments and instrument transfer.

• Delivering patient personal oral hygiene and general orthodontic instructions

• Preparation of dental materials:

o Cements

o Impression material

o Removing excess cement from bands

o Taking and pouring impressions

o Trimming plaster models for labs and presentation

o Instrument cleaning, sterilization, disinfection and re-circulation

o Operatory disinfection

o Bracket set-up

o Basic patient prep set-up

• Taking dental x-rays, panorex and cephs

• Taking intra and extra oral photographs

• Taking impression and bite registrations

• Ligature removal and replacement

• Pre-selection of orthodontic bands and separator placement

• Tooth preparation:

o Coronal polishing

o Etching

o Sealants

• Wire removal and placement

• Fabrication of orthodontic retainers (essix and splints) helpful

Other duties as assigned

Certifications Required:
