Well this add is exactly the opposites of the many ads on CL that are looking for people with a good amount of experience.
We've only been playing for less than a year, I'd say 8 months now, and we're still trying to figure things out, so we'd like someone with similar skills. Basically I believe that we can all learn better and faster if we play as group, not to mention it would be a lot more fun.
I play drums and my friend plays guitar, but has also been playing bass, so we're looking for another guitar or bass player, and possibly even a singer. Eventually we'd like to start a band, so if we get good enough and things work out you're more than welcome to stay, but the goal for now is just to build our skills and have fun doing it.
Our influences are mostly metal oriented, with some punk. Things like Slayer, Lamb of God, Iron Maiden, Metallica and such. But I know that "angel of death" is probably not the easiest song for a beginner, so we'll really play anything for now.
We're both 28, but I'm really not too picky about age, as long as you are motivated and are ready to rock, have your own equipment, and are easy going. We got a small place to practice, so don't expect no Donington, but it's something

Yeah, well, a very few people realize that a lot of old country is basically the blues, as yelped by hillbillys. I like mine small combo style and stripped down, with my geetar turned up too dirty, with them drums pounding a sleazy bump and grind. If this is done right, it will disgust 99% of both blues and country purists. I've snuck this in in C&W bands over the years, getting the patrons sweaty and the bar owners pissed. But modern country is a wimpy nutless bore, and the blues is strictly been there, done that, ho hum, who cares how many licks you know, how fast you can play them, or your ethnic agenda. Anyhoo, I don't worship at these churches, but rather at some stinking roadhouse where folks have to get down to the meat and hair. I sing, play guitar, write, and could use some bass and drums and whathaveyou. You don't have to be great, butcha can't suck. We can record and practice at my place, and then pull our piece on the unsuspecting. I would expect great difficulty in obtaining conventional gigs if this goes as planned. Which of course indicates astounding potential.

The 5-Star Swingers is a newly formed cover band in the Northwest Burbs. We have been practicing as a four pc, missing the drummer for just a few weeks. Set lists will cover 70's to present - alternative, classic, hard, and modern rock. Current band members all have 10+ years experience. We are talented, driven and dedicated. We have all been in bands and on stage. We all work hard, practice our asses off, and have a great time doing it! We have pro gear and a secure practice space with a PA. Blues Band Seeks Female Vocalist

We are a working blues band, gigging a couple of times per month at bars, fests, weddings, corporate gatherings and the occasional special event. We all have day jobs, aren�t kids, and find the time to gig regularly and also practice a couple times/month. Our material now runs the gamut from classic Chicago blues (Muddy, Wolf, Sonny Boy Williamson) to jump/urban blues (T-Bone Walker, B.B.) to soul/R&B (Ray Charles) to a little southern rock (ABB) to blues-rock (Taj Mahal, Butterfield). Instrumentally, we�ve got two guitars, harp/vocalist, bass & drums. We pride ourselves on tight arrangements, good dynamics and solos compelling enough so that people peel their eyes away from their date or the basketball game on the widescreen TV to check out what�s happening on the bandstand. Vocal chores and fronting the band are now handled by our harp player but we would like to expand our horizons by adding a female vocalist who would be featured every set. We would like her to have great gospel inflections, familiarity with our material, ready-to-go blues sensibilities, professionalism, confidence, experience, the ability to charm a room, warmth and a great set of pipes. We�re not able to take on a complete newbie who doesn�t have a background singing blues or basic familiarity with the material. Once she�s on board we picture adding material by Aretha, Koko, Susan Tedeschi, Bonnie Lee, Ruthie Foster�and adapting tunes traditionally covered by a male vocalist to suit her interests. We tend to build our sets around the singer�s comfort zone so we�re hoping she arrives with a set of blues/R&B interests which is in sync with the direction of the band. By adding her to the band we hope to infuse our material with a bit more soul, R&B, dual-vocal harmonies, blues ballads and gospel-influenced changes to compliment our blues-rock and straight-ahead traditional Chicago blues material. Rehearsals happen in the Lake Zurich area, gigs happen mostly in the north/northwest suburbs as well as in the city. Auditions will be scheduled at band practice, usually a weekday evening.
