He is groomed into a traditional pony clip with white flashy furnishings, and he has excellent clear skin that is pink with slate spots. Don’t have a photo yet as I’m waiting for my xD card to come in, but I can take one with my cameraphone if necessary. He is being rehomed without any papers as we discovered he contains some very unreputable bloodlines we don’t wish to support, so we are unable to show him as we originally hoped. He has made a wonderful pet but we’ve had our other little dog longer who plays a little too rough with him, so we feel it is in his best interest as he seems to be losing his patience with our other little boy. =)
He’s up to date on all vaccinations, tested negative for heartworm and takes monthly preventative. He’s okay with other dogs as long as they don’t approach him too intensely, he may snip if they run up to him too quick until he knows them but has never actually tried to fight or anything. Cats he does like to chase but again doesn’t even do anything when he gets to them, just sniffs, gets bored and walks off. Kids, we don’t know- he’s usually shy right away with anybody but only until they give him a treat or anything, he quickly becomes very loving and energetic. He’s super affectionate and loves to cuddle, he makes a great lapdog! I would think he’d be okay with kids as long as they were mature and didn’t try approaching him too aggressively as that would scare him. Remember, he’s only a little guy at 12-13lbs! Walks great on a leash. He wears a belly band in our house to prevent accidents, we haven’t had problems potty training him but we know cresteds are known for being hard to housebreak- so we’d rather his new owner expected the worst. He may adjust great but there’s no way to know, so please be prepared to help him with a “refresher course” in potty training at his new home.
We are asking an adoption fee of $250 as that’s what most rescues charge; and it’s signifcantly less than what breeders charge. An adoption fee ensures that an owner is willing and able to support owning a dog financially. There’s no such thing as a free animal, as all living things have needs that it’s up to us as their owners to provide them with. . It scares me how many people will find a rare dog like him so cheap, and then just turn around and sell him for more! That’s just wrong, people!! We don’t want that to happen.
We are asking that his new owners also sign a contract that states he will be fixed (neutered) within 60 days of his adoption or else he has to come back to us; and also that if for any reason you can’t keep him any more, he needs to be brought back to us too instead of taken to any shelters/rescues/anyone else. He’s a beloved pet and deserves a forever home. Please email me and tell me about your lifestyle- we welcome any questions about him of course, but mainly WE want to know about YOU- your home, routines, other pets, just basically why you believe he would fit in great with your family. We won’t ask for breed experience but just that you are familiar with a lot of dogs, dog behavior/training would be a great plus. Cresteds are very unique and not like your average dog. I’ll try to get back to you ASAP.
Please, no rescues… we appreciate the offers, but we are very well experienced in placing dogs and as we know him best, prefer to take matters into our own hands. We have no problems enforcing neuter contracts the way some people seem to do and can easily take matters to court if necessary, so please- respect our choice- we have all the resources we need to ensure compliance. We’re doing what is best for our little boy and are prepared to screen out his PERFECT match! =)

Kody Bear is a gorgeous 2 year-old male Akita who loves to play with toys and interact with people. Kody can be a bit dominant with other dogs so his ideal foster home would only have more submissive or dog savvy dogs. Also, though he is not aggressive towards cats, he does have a bit too much of a prey drive to be in a home with cats. When assessed with them he did not show any aggression (so he would be fine if he came accross a cat on a walk), but was far too interested to be trusted alone with them. Kody is a very handsome boy and a fast learner.

Boris is a smiley two-year-old pit/boxer mix who is very friendly and wiggly. Boris does well with other dogs and seems to enjoy their company so he could be in a foster home either with our without dogs. We have yet to assess him with cats, but think that a cat-free foster home would probably be the best bet for Boris too. While Boris is an extremely friendly guy, he has not always had enough food so he does tend to enhale his meals and fixate on any chewing treats (i.e. rawhides and pigs ears). He does not growl or act aggressively, but does not want to share his food based posessions.

He has a condition where when he gets stressed out (moving to a new home, surgery, vet visit), he will develop an upper respiratory infection which is the equivalent of a kitty cold. Once he is settled into a new home, this shouldn't really be a problem. Sometimes it also goes away as he gets older! They tried to treat him at the shelter that he's from but he wasn't getting better so I took him home to help him along. Due to this, they won't put him on the adoption floor with the general cat population, so I agreed to find a home for him!
He loves other cats and it would be very unlikely he would pass this virus to another cat if he lived with one. He's doing much better now but needs a permanent home! He is super cuddly and very low maintenance. There is a small fee of $55 to adopt at the shelter, but I would be willing to split the cost to ensure that he goes to a great home. As much as I love this adorable orange tub ‘o lard, I'm afraid my lifestyle doesn’t quite fit with his. Rudy would be perfect for a home with children and/or other pets. He is very playful, gets along with other animals and loves being outside.

Rudy has been neutered and declawed and is due for a booster on his vaccinations soon. She is spayed, roughly 75lbs, and will turn 5 years old in November. She is up-to-date with her shots. She is extremely smart and very easy to train. She rarely barks. That is the number of animals euthanized every hour of every day of every year in the United States alone. Not to belittle Bob Barker, but spaying and neutering is NOT the solution!! It is only PART of the solution!

Society's treatment of animals as disposable is a giant part of the problem. The excuses I hear people make for getting rid of their animals (I'm pregnant, I'm moving where pets aren't allowed, I have suddenly developed allergies, I'm traveling more for work, this animal no longer matches my furniture, etc.) are inexcusable. Many of these people are acting out of ignorance... others are trying to ease a guilty conscience. You can make a difference by encouraging these people to move elsewhere, get allergy meds, get a petsitter while traveling, travel less, work with an animal's behavior problem, etc. Explain to the person who says, "I got rid of my cat, but it's okay, I found a good home for it" that whatever home they found is one less home available for a cat out there that was euthanized as a result of a lack of space. Explain to the person that says, "I adopted a dog and got rid of it because it barked at a stranger entering its property or because it wasn't housebroken" that all they needed to do was give the animal a chance to adjust to its new environment or take it to obedience training. Patience, patience, patience... it really is a virtue!

An animal you adopt or rescue is depending on you for a LIFETIME of love and security, not just when it's convenient. Almost every problem that arises: behavioral, physical, geographical, etc. is resolvable.

If you've found an animal, consider adding it to your potentially already full household, or place an ad in the paper (never place it as a "free to good home" ad because this will attract people looking for bait animals or animals to sell to a laboratory for research) until it can be admitted to an already overwhelmed no-kill shelter so that they can properly screen potential adopters. Try to buy the animal time until a permanent home can be found, but have a professional do the placement. They know what questions to ask and how to properly screen people. Find a foster home, somebody's basement or extra bedroom, or a kennel that will board the animal... Start a collection amongst friends/employees to donate towards boarding... Encourage EVERYONE you know to adopt an animal or add an animal to their household... two dogs instead of one, three cats instead of two... or how about a rabbit?... they can cohabitate nicely with cats. Encourage people to adopt from a shelter, not to buy from a breeder or pet store. With 575 animals killed every hour why would anyone go to a breeder or a pet store supplied by puppy mills? Because they can't get a purebred elsewhere? Wrong!! There's a rescue group for every breed imaginable and shelters have many purebred animals available for adoption. There just aren't any excuses for getting rid of an animal or for not rescuing an animal from anywhere other than a shelter or the street.

My quaker is 2 years old and I have had him since he was weaned. The lovebird was found last Fathers Day in a bush at church and we just adopted him after no luck finding his owner. He will accept petting once he is in your hand but he can be hard to catch. Not trained to step up but not a mean bird. My quaker is gentle to me but can be a little touchy with others. That will just take time with who ever adopts him. Both birds are kept with their flight feathers clipped but they both know how to fly and will fly if their feathers are left to grow out. TOOTIE is in great need for a better foster home or a forever home. I have finally found what seems to be a solution to her allergies, and now she just needs a better environment. She was being fostered previously with 10 cats in whch she was terribly allergic too, so i took her because it was urgent and an emergency. Now that she is better however, a basement apartment is not good for her either, but at the time anything was better than reactions to cats.
