Water Conservation Makes Dollars and Sense
Reducing water use in your home may save you a few extra dollars on your water bill, but there are far more important reasons to conserve water. Water conservation has many positive environmental effects, including preserving fresh water habitats and saving energy.

A great deal of energy goes into transporting water to your residence, and more is used to heat water for your kitchen and bathrooms. Conserving water can prevent some of the pollution caused by excessive energy use while allowing you to save on your energy bill.

When we use too much water, the result can also be detrimental to the environment. Much of the water that we consume comes from underground reserves. If this water is used faster than it is replenished, the land above the water reserves can sink. Once subsidence occurs, the underground aquifers where water was stored cannot be reformed and area that relied on the aquifer will have to find other sources of water.

Following are some suggestions on ways to save water:

Take showers rather than baths. Showers use about a third as much water.
Take shorter showers.
Avoid leaving the water running while shaving and brushing teeth.
Don't use the toilet as a trash can.
Use the dishwasher and washing machine only with full loads.
Don't run water continuously for vegetable and dish washing.
Water lawns in the morning to avoid evaporation.
Keep grass at least two inches high to shade roots.
Use mulch or ground covering plants to prevent excessive evaporation.
Use waste water from the house to water your garden.
Plant native or drought tolerant plants.
Water trees slowly, deeply and infrequently to encourage deep rooting. A slow drip for an hour once a week should be sufficient for most trees.
Use a broom rather than the hose to clean off walkways, patios and other outdoor areas.
When washing your car, use a bucket of water or a hose with an automatic shut-off nozzle instead of letting the hose run.

The Sunfield Childrens Home at Stourbridge, England treats disturbed children through colour or chromotherapy as it is also known. In Rudolf Steiner Waldorf Schools class teachers paint classrooms to reflect the "soul mood" of the children at their particular stage of development. The first year classroom is always red.

Aura Soma oils contain the essence of distilled plants, herbs and other ingredients in oils of the most heavenly coloours. Just looking at the bottles lifts the spirits and brings a feeling of well-being. There are seven oils for each of the principal stages of development.

I put a bottle of Aura Soma oil in the bedroom of a friend who had a rare and usually fatal form of cancer. Over time the oil developed floating debris and clouded over. The friend made a miraculous recovery. I hasten to add that the oil was used as a complementary therapy to surgery, drug and vitamin treatment.

Natural light changes during the day. Artificial light is statica and does not have the same effect on us as natural light. In fact it can make us tired and tense. It is no surprise that people in industrialized nations are rediscovering the healing, soothing effects of candlelight.

We instinctively understand the power of colour to influence out mood. When we feel "blue" we look for colours tro cheer us up. On the other hand when we are angry we seek cool colours to help us dissipate this emotion. Employing color to create a certain mood in gardens is very much the trend at the moment.

Colours are used to express certain qualities. someone my be described as "red-blooded" or as having a "yellow streak" meaning the person is a coward. We talk about someone being a "greenhorn" if they are inexperienced or being "green with envy". Black has a particularly bad press. We have "black magic", "black despair" as just two examples.Perhaps black is viewed as a negative because it absorbs the light leaving us "in the dark" and without light the Planet will die and with it us.

Colour doesn't just have an effect on our mood it is becoming ever clearer that it also influences our physiology. Insufficient sunlight can lead to vitamin D deficiency and ill-health. Our skins creates vitamin D when exposed to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays. Fears of skin cancer have led to the use of sun blocks which protect the skin but is bad for natural vitamin D production. Vitamin D helps calcium absorption, helps fight cancer and diabetes and is necessary for a hormone which protects muscle. People of colour find producing vitamin D harder because their skins dark pigment filters out much of the sun's ultraviolet light. (Understanding Vitamin D Deficiency by Janet Raloff)

I am not for a minute suggesting that you try and give your child with special needs colour therapy treatment. That requires a specialized, properly trained practitioner. I am just suggesting that it might be helpful to try and incorporate colour and fragrance into your Dance and Movement sessions. There are many ways of doing this - the most obvious ones being clothing and accessories. There are several major features that go into producing a mobility vehicle. One of the major ones is a light weight ramp that is often incorporated into the design of the vehicle. Sometimes they are electrically operated and others are operated via a winch system. Larger mobility vehicles have lifts that bring the disabled person into the vehicle with a minimum of effort. These lifts or ramps will usually be located at the rear of the vehicle or in some cases, the side.

Other features that are very essential in a mobility vehicle are things like tie downs for the wheelchair, lug spaces and seat belts for other passengers. In most cases the mobility vehicles come with power steering and also automatic gearbox. Other features are ones such as extra sensors that enable the driver to know what's going on in the vehicle and also additional seating so children can accompany the disabled person on shorter journeys.

There are two main types of mobility vehicles. One is where the disabled person is able to drive the vehicle themselves with the help of specially converted controls. The other type is built to carry a disabled person in their wheelchair while being driven by someone else.

Another special feature of a mobility vehicle is the raised roof or lowered floor of the vehicle that is needed to permit entry to the vehicle by the disabled person. If the disabled person is particularly tall, then special attention will need to be given while selecting the right kind of mobility vehicle. Width wise, most mobility vehicles will be okay as almost all wheelchairs are made to an industry standard.

As you can tell, there is a lot of thought needed when looking to buy a mobility vehicle and the above is only an outline of what to consider. As purchasing a disabled vehicle outright is a big decision, leasing one may be an option that would be worth your while considering.
