Lutheran Church in Chicago Heights is looking for an Administrative Assistant to help with the day-to-day operations of the parish; this is a part-time position (3 hrs/day, M-F). We are looking for a friendly, organized, professional, and trustworthy Administrative Assistant who is a team player and has excellent people skills. Regular contact with members of the parish, pastor, and other organizations within the Churchwide structure is part of the job; we are looking for someone to fulfill these requirements efficiently and professionally.
The position requires keeping track of office and building needs, producing the weekly bulletin and newsletter, and answering inquiries to the parish office. A probationary period of three months will be offered, with evaluation at that time as to continued employment with the organization.
The position includes:
$9.00/hr starting pay with evaluations for raises annually;
Paid holidays and vacation time.
3 hrs/day (9 a.m.-noon), with adjustments made for particularly busy times of the Church year.
DUTIES
The Administrative Assistant will assist with the day-to-day running of the parish, including but not limited to:
Supporting the Pastor in ministry and all requirements pertaining to that ministry;
Maintaining organized office and common areas;
Answering phones, emails, and ensuring that all inquiries are addressed in a timely fashion;
Accurate maintaining of congregational records;
Creating and editing documents in software such as Word, Publisher, and occasionally Excel;
Familiarity and fluency in the use of web-based e-mail and internet resources;
Perform reception duties in an efficient, professional and courteous manner;
Production of the weekly bulletin and monthly newsletter in conjunction with the Pastor and Cantor;
Other duties as assigned
The ability to maintain strict confidentiality within the office and parish environment

Experienced with MS Office Suite, including Word, Publisher, and Excel;
Willingness to learn the terminology of the Church's internal management life;
Ability to maintain confidentiality at all levels of professional execution.
