My name is James DiGirolamo and I am the Musical Director of the Garage Band ensemble program at the Oakbrook Academy of Music. The Academy closed on December 6th and as a result, I will be relocating the program to either the Downers Grove or Hinsdale Conservatories of Music (or possibly both locations). As part of this transition, I am hoping to grow the program.

I plan to operate in a way that will allow me to pay teachers, students, parents, etc., for referring new students. The current plan is as follows; I will pay any person who refers a student $5.00 per student per week. The semesters are 12 weeks long resulting in a total payment of $60.00 per semester. I am not quarreling with most of what you said. I actually was reading along and agreeing and thinking about how it realtes to me and bands I have been in and so on. Then I get near the end and realized I was being sales pitched and get put off.
The only question I have for you and every real estate guy and every financial guy and every other guy who "makes it" and then is compelled to write a book about it is this; If you are making so much money and have become so successful doing whatever it is you are doing why do you need to write this book? Please don't tell me it is for altruistic reasons because I would then ask you why are you charging money for it, why not give it away?
I appreciate you writing it though. Someone may buy it and have their life changed.

We're two 18-year-olds who are trying to start up a crossover thrash band in St. Charles, IL. One of us plays guitar and the other plays bass. We�ve been playing for about three years, and have even played the Rave in Milwaukee among other shows. We�re dedicated to crossover thrash and we will NOT sell out and play sissy slow stuff. Redline Audio is looking for an experienced female vocalist to split lead vocals, and here's our story. We currently have drums/vocals, bass, lead guitar/vocals and male vocals/rhythm guitar. We have past experience playing all over the city and suburbs and have booked through several agents. We also have a few bands interested in pairing up with us to help broaden our scope. Our next shows are 12/26 and 2/6 and we're in the process of booking additional shows with the goal of performing twice a month.

We have a lot of fun while we practice and are friends as well as bandmates. We're drug-free (although we'll throw back a couple of drinks occasionally), low on ego, no drama, and looking for the same. While the founding members have been playing together for almost 5 years, the most current lineup has been together for about two years. We all have many years of experience in original and cover bands (we're in our 30's and 40's and have been gigging since college), and have professional PA (JBL, Mackie, Shure) and lighting when needed. We have the ability to record and produce demos and have marketing materials completed. We all have day jobs and family, and understand that those responsibilities come first.

As far as the set list goes, we are staying within the 90�s to current alternative rock niche (Green Day, Garbage, Foo Fighters, Alanis, Weezer, Evanescence, and more). Also no country, jazz, blues, etc. We believe that there is a market for this niche which is largely untapped, and that if we play the songs well and have fun doing it the audience will enjoy it, remember us, and go out of their way to see us again. We're looking for someone who can embrace the vision for the band and ideally would have experience with at least some of the songs on our set list.

Also, we don't suck.

The Academy closed on December 6th and as a result, I will be relocating the program to either the Downers Grove or Hinsdale Conservatories of Music (or possibly both locations). Singer/guitarist/writer digs the simple shit--primal beats and nasty riffs. My world includes rockabilly (particularly the fierce loud stuff, both old e.g.,The Pirates, and the new, e.g., Frenzy); raw, ancient country (e.g., Hank, Buck), protoguitar, e.g., Lonnie Mack, Bo Diddley, Link Wray; swamp (CCR), dirty Detroit (e.g., MC5, Amboy. Dukes) as well as some modern echoes of this stuff (e.g.White Stripes). If you want to make noise that drives 'em to drink and fornicate, here's your ticket. Bassist need not be good! Just know how to find the root of chord (and there ain't many). Good drummer always welcome, but if you can only keep time and pound away in some basic kinda-fashion, that's probably workable. Try to have your shit basically together. I've played professionally since the 70's which makes me a rather vintage specimen, but I sling it out, have tons of energy live, and leave nothing but smoke and rubble. So other codgers welcome, as long as you can deliver the energy live. Yeah, I can play many different styles, I've played with some big names, but it just doesn't matter anymore. I love simplicity and I love it loud. I have a good practice space at my house, recording equipment and a bit of PA. Gigs? Well, basically you have to trick people, steal their money, and leave them gasping and grateful. I DON'T EXPECT ANY RESPONSE TO THIS, AS IT IS CRAZY SELF-INDULGENT OFFENSIVE IDIOCY. But hey, that's what rock and roll is all about.

1) Should a player sign some type of agreement prior to making studio recordings with anyone?
2) Should a player sign anything with a band before going on an over the road tour with them?

dead by monday is an original band with material for 6- 8 songs so far looking for a bass player that can be more of a lead in the music we write. we are looking for soneone that has a funk/jazz type of style that can pick and slap when needed, but can also power thru a song. the lead singer/guitar, drums and guitar are in place, but we need to complete the bottom end that will complete the sound we want to achieve. we have a divirse idea of songs and don't stick to just one sound, it has to be a group collaboration, and you must be open to other ideas, and we are too.

ok, the hard part about finding about the bass player we are looking for...... please don't contact us if you don't plan on making an audition after scheduling one, please don't show up for an audition and want to work on cover songs to get timing.... if we don't work out timing on originals, chances are the covers we evenually do probably won't be as crisp as possible, it's all about chemestry. ***** we are willing to run thru all of our songs at an audition only, we will not send material before hand, but only because it has not been recorded in a studio yet, not to bee a tool, but anything practice recorded is not the sound quality you would want ***** we are really easy to get along with, as long as you take it as serious as we are too. our goal is to studio record a 6-10 song ep 1st (early to mid spring) then get a set of covers to fill out sets. thanks for understanding we just want to get the hard work out of the way 1st.

I have been playing (rock) and singing (rock and classical) for 15+ years, and work with folks ages 8 thru retirees who have a desire to learn guitar, bass or singing. My focus with regards to guitar and bass includes:

-Instrument Overview/Care (Describing the various components that make up the guitar, handling it, changing strings, polishing, etc.),
-Teaching the fundamentals (tuning, basic scales and chords, learning simple songs, the use of a capo, etc.),
-Basics in songwriting (especially useful for those musicians who want to play AND sing)

With regards to voice I likewise start with the basics, and place an emphasis on good breathing, vocalizing, and diction techniques (English, German and Italian). For those interested in voice only, I have a piano in my home studio.

I live in Lyons, IL (a near-west 'burb of Chicago; minutes from Brookfield Zoo, and about 25 minutes from downtown). I can host the lesson or travel pretty much anywhere in the Chicagoland area. My rates are quite reasonable ($15/half-hour, $25/hr, a bit more if I travel to you).

Ok, so I'm looking to start up a band that is similar to dragon ash from Japan. They mix all kinds of styles together to make real catchy music. I want to do something that a bit different from the norm. Its very hard to stand out in the music world now a days so something different would be probably considered a breath of fresh air. I'm just sick of hearing the same old crap on the radio and seeing it on mtv. How about something new mass media? How about something that shakes the American music scene? Anybody out there still jamming on the weekend? I play most any hand percussion instrument and am very capable of adding fills and accents or being the only rhythm section. I am 53 and have been playing since forever. I am not now a member of any bands but have played professionally with several groups (it's doubtful you ever heard of them). But I miss the jams and practice sessions. My musical tastes are pretty diverse, but.my current playlist includes a mix of Neil Young and various other old rockers. I'm just looking to get back into making music, either just for fun or for paying gigs. Other than my tendency to bang on things, sometimes very loudly, I am a relatively normal person.

We are looking for a very specific person. Maybe you are in another band, and are looking for a casual side band. Maybe you used to rock a lot, and have been out of it for a while. We are a pop/rock cover band who just lost a member. We need someone who can sing lead on up to half of our songs, and play guitar, strong enough to play leads on about half of the songs.

We are playing pop/rock stuff, so you don't really need to be a shredder, but good enough to be able to learn stuff quickly, and not be afraid to solo.

We are stopping gigging until this position is filled, but will be gigging again as soon as you are in place. We have around 40 songs, and we have a practice space around Elmhurst area. We practice once a week, and will be gigging around every 4-6 weeks. Again, this could be a good side project - but we are committed enough to put effort into it. We want this to be a very good cover band. We have generally been playing in the suburbs and would expect it to continue, but we would be open to city gigs as well.

We are looking for someone with a fair amount of experience and abilities. We are a 4 piece (looking for our 4th) and we try to emphasize vocals. Every member can sing at least some harmonies, and we play many of our songs with 3 or 4 people singing. We are very easy to get along with - no egos. But we are confident in our abilities and we feel that this is a great opportunity for the right person to walk right in and hit the ground running.
