Position Description - The Automation Systems Programmer position is responsible for the development, programming, and completion of graphical front ends for complex HVAC building automation systems projects. The position will also encompass beta testing of new automation hardware and software, development of a software library, management of project backups and databases, investigation of new technical practices and policies for improved performance among engineering staff, and miscellaneous projects designated to develop potential new markets or products.
The position will include:
-Approximately 50% work on remote sites, located primarily in the Chicago and northern Illinois region.
-Independent investigation and learning of any and all items technical in the industry.
-Understanding of typical HVAC mechanical equipment operations including boilers, chillers, air handlers, and various terminal unit equipment.
-Comprehension of typical computer programming algorithms, boolean logic, and PID control schemes.
-Experience with serial and ethernet/IP based networks, routing, and design, as well as common network protocols, applications, and communication hardware.
-Direct customer interaction in finding the appropriate solutions to clients needs, determining appropriate alternatives, coordination with other employees and contractors, and ultimately providing complete customer satisfaction.
-Project control and budgetary considerations, scheduling of manpower, determination of cost saving measures, and awareness of losses.
-Independence and self-driven learning, investigation of new products and opportunities, and the willingness to contribute and develop to a rapidly evolving organization.
Position Requirements:

Preferred - 4 year engineering degree from an accredited university.
Acceptable - 2 year technical degree with a concentration in electrical, mechanical, or computer field.
Acceptable - Prior experience in the building automation industry.
Preferred - Strong knowledge of one or more computer programming languages (C, C++, Java, Visual Basic, Fortran, Cobol, etc.) or building automation specific programming environments.
Acceptable - Understanding of basic programming algorithms, the ability to create flow diagrams, decipher existing programs, and a thought process focused on logical, step by step execution of a concept.
Preferred - Knowledge of computer hardware, construction and assembly of such, operating system and program installation, troubleshooting, and resolution of performance issues.
Acceptable - Understanding of basic computer components, software packages, and the operation of such.
Preferred - Experience or study in electrical theory, with a heavy concentration on three phase systems, AC and DC circuits, motors/lighting/switching, storage systems, and transfer.
Acceptable - Understanding of basic electrical concepts, including LRC circuits, Ohm's Law, diodes, transformers, relays, transistors, amplifiers, etc.
Preferred - Understanding of mechanical equipment operation, including boilers, chillers, air handlers, VAV units, unit ventilators, unit heaters, etc. Understanding of electrical equipment operation including switchgear, transformers, generators, UPSs, PDUs, and metering.
Acceptable - Mechanical or electrical experience as a mechanic or electrician in industrial, commercial, or residential applications.
Preferred - Information Technology experience in such applications such as Windows Server and SQL, protocols such as DHCP, DNS, SMTP, etc.
Preferred - Accreditation with any of the following: LEED accredited professional, certified energy managers, auditors, or demand side managers, professional engineers, etc.
Preferred - Certification for computer experience in any of the following: CCNA, CCIE, CCNP, CCIP, MCSE, MCP, RHCE, A+, etc.
