*In 1900, Frederick Helb and his sons established the F. Helb and Sons Co., a furniture manufacturing company in Railroad, Pensilvania. This became the Sieling Furniture Co. in 1905. The location of this factory in the southern part of the borough had been the site of a grist mill and distillery for many years. However, with the addition of a manufacturing plant, a small cluster of workers' houses sprang up along South Main Street. The Sieling plant was the borough's sole surviving industry in 1971.

*The B.F. Huntley Furniture Co. was organized in 1906 in Winston-Salem, NC. It had previously been operated as the Oakland Furniture Co. since 1898. It has passed through various ownership over the years. Many different styles were made over the years as fashions and preferences changed. The Simmons Co. held ownership of the stock from 1929 to 1935. Huntley furniture with a Simmons label was probably made during this period. The company passed back to the original owners in 1935. Fire destroyed the Huntley plant on Valentines Day in 1956, but the facility was rebuilt and showed samples at the October furniture market that year. In 1961, Huntley Furniture merged with Thomasville Chair Co. and the Huntley name disappeared.

*Paul McCobb was a modern furniture and industrial designer. He was completely self-taught with regards to design and his furniture became known for it’s functionality and approachability. Perspective and scale became trademarks for McCobb, along with thin lines, simplicity of form and a distinct lightness. He was a realist and a perfectionist and his design pieces are a clear reflection of his personality. McCobb died in 1969 at the age of 52.

*James Broyhill mortgaged his house for $5,000 in 1926 to found the Lenoir Chair Company in North Carolina, where he successfully upholstered chairs on consignment. In the early 1940s, he purchased six small furniture plants in Lenoir and neighboring towns, which he later branded as Broyhill Furniture Factories. Broyhill comes from a long history of designing American styles featuring elegant solid woods.

*The Conant Ball Furniture company was founded in the late 1800s in Gardner, Massachusetts, specializing in wooden Colonial furniture reproductions and cane seat chairs. Russel Wright designed some of their most popular items in the American Modern style and these pieces are considered rare and notable. The Conant Ball Furniture Company closed in 1980.

*The Kent-Coffey Manufacturing Company was started in 1907 by Harold Coffey in Lenoir, North Carolina. The Kent Coffey company became popular in the 1950s and 60s. They reproduced their most popular furniture due to their reputation for being good quality, durable, and high demand. The company was sold to the Singer Furniture Company (a subsidiary of the company that produced Singer sewing machine). In 1997 their failing furniture division finally collapsed. Sadly the Kent-Coffey division was unable to stay in business after the parent company went under and finally closed its doors in 2001.
