*William Wegman (1943—) is an American artist best known for creating a series of compositions involving dogs, primarily his own Weimaraners in various costumes and poses. Wegman has created film and video works for Saturday Night Live and Nickelodeon and his video segments for Sesame Street have appeared regularly since 1989. In 1995, Wegman’s film The Hardly Boys was screened at the Sundance Film Festival. Wegman has been commissioned to create images for a wide range of projects including a fashion campaign for Acne, banners for the Metropolitan Opera and covers for numerous publications including The New Yorker and, most recently, Wallpaper. Wegman has appeared on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and with Jay Leno, The David Letterman Show and The Colbert Report. William Wegman lives in New York and Maine where he continues to paint, draw, make videos and take photographs with his dogs Flo and Topper.

*Mark McMahon (1950—) and his wife Carolyn McGregor McMahon live in Lake Forest, Illinois from where he does illustration images for their card marketing company as well as silk screens and tile murals. She does marketing for the company and also creates sculpture and drawings.  Among Mark McMahon paintings subjects are scenes of overflowing crowds at the Chicago Bulls stadium, pep rallies for those games, Chicago skyscrapers and other city scenes as well as genre and town views of Lake Forest. His style is sophisticated naive, and many of his paintings are filled with action figures related to sports.

*Fritz Rudolf Hug was a 20th-century Swiss artist known for his charismatic paintings and drawings of wild animals. He often travelled to zoos and throughout different countries in Africa to closely observe animals in person, creating his highly accurate works from life. Born on March 19, 1921 in Dornach, Switzerland, Hug spent much of his childhood in Indonesia, where he developed an interest in the wildlife around him. He later went on to study at the School of Applied Arts Zürich in Switzerland and developed his reputation for specializing in detailed depictions of various creatures. In 1964, Hug notably produced 100 works on behalf of the World Wildlife Fund, depicting endangered species of animals and birds with the goal of raising funds and awareness for their protection. The artist died on January 29, 1989 in Speicherschwendi, Switzerland.

*Arshile Gorky (1904-1948) was an Armenian-American painter who had a profound influence on the developments of Abstract Expressionism. He spent most of his life as a national of the United States after fleeing the Armenian Genocide in 1920 and changing his name and identity upon arrival. Along with Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, Gorky has been hailed as one of the most powerful American painters of the 20th century. Gorky suffered from depression and committed suicide in July of 1948.

*Daphne Odjig (1919-2016) was a Canadian First Nations artist of Adawa-Potawatomi-English heritage. Her painting is often characterized as Woodlands Style or as the pictographic style. She was the driving force behind the Professional Native Indian Artists Association, colloquially known as the Indian Group of Seven, a group considered a pioneer in bringing First Nations art to the forefront of Canada’s art world.
