Selling my rebuilt 1997 Trek 850 mountain bike. I bought this and rebuilt it towards the end of last summer but have moved on to a new project.
The rebuild included dissassembly cleaning, and adjustment of all bearings, replacement of the tires & tubes, replacement of the brake pads, and replacement and adjustment of all cables.
The tires that I put on it are new Michelin Racer MTB tires, which are durable and fast rolling. The brake pads are Jagwire, MTB pads, as pictured. The pedals were replaced with brand new Wellgo pedals like the ones that came with it. A period correct 90s Trek seat bag is included.
Everything else, including the seat is original as it came from the factory in 1997.
The Trek 850 was a serious "professional" mountain bike with a higher bottom bracket and lower gearing to tackle harsh terrain, unlike other Trek mountain bikes that were more general purpose "recreation" oriented and not real mountain bikes. It was the most expensive and highest end rigid mountain bike that Trek sold in 1997, back when rigid mountain bikes were still a thing.
The frame is made in the USA of steel Cro-Moly True Temper double butted tubing, as is the fork. The components are all premium, as pictured. The rims are "Matrix Guru" USA made.
The size of this bike's frame is 22.5 inches, the largest size that the bike came in, otherwise known as an XL size suitable for someone 6' - 6' 5" tall. The standover height, ground to the top of the top tube is about 33 inches.
