I used to take my kids to the beach two/three times a week and look at the sailboats out on the lake and think “those rich bahstids, i wish … but never can, grrr”
Actual truth is that sailing / part-owning a sail boat on our wonderful lake is utterly accessible: we bought our 29-foot / sleeps up to six, teak-lined interior sailboat with full galley (including stove and oven, shower and toilet too –and diesel motor) for five grand.
Yearly costs aren’t nothing –a lil over four grand [ok sometimes kicks up to 5k for like a sail replacement or something) for harbouring at Monroe [heart of downtown] and winter storage– but divided by four or more is way less than one night at DisneyWorld (not to mention the flights down there). Also comes with free downtown parking in the Lake Garage (useful even if you’re not going to the boat :-)
‘Nother truth: tho we go out every week or two (occasionally double that)– the boat sits unused 98% of the time.
Also know this: you can use the boat as a floating cabin in the heart of downtown, stay overnight, gawk at the skyline and the lake before you get gently rocked to sleep
We are losing one of our long-time partners (moved to Hawaii) so we’d like to add a new one: but required that you be an experienced sailor with a crew to accompany you [seasoned one-handers ok]. We had a very happy mutual experience this year with a couple with a family who wanted to try out boat ownership before taking the plunge into purchasing.
😎
Complete and total charge –including virtually total boat access and free parking etc etc– is $1000 (will kick down to $750 if TWO new part-owners/users join)
Secondary category we’d consider inviting is less-experienced or sailing-curious folks. No charge for that . . . we do like turning (esp yg) people on to sailing – and if you turn into a part-owner/user, great
For all, we’ll be going out either this Saturday or Sunday if you’d like to try her out with us, then probably several other times after that
Otherwise there is the boat trip down the river down to the marina/winter storage on Saturday October 25 –through the locks and the 23 drawbridges, fun architectural experience
