My small business needs an experienced network / systems administrator to care for our office computer environment. Hardly any on-site work required, but you may need to come to the business once in a while.
Why are we posting here? Our support guy has retired from IT, but we still need support. Here is a description of the environment and the skills and experience needed to manage it:
Skills:
Windows Server Administration, from Server 2000 to 2019
VMware ESXi 6.7
Sonicwall / pFsense firewall administration
FreeNAS/TrueNAS administration
10Gb ethernet concepts
Windows Powershell
10 Windows virtual machines
4 Physical servers
Comcast Business Internet
Sonicwall NSA2400 firewall
HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen 8 Server running ESXi
Dell PowerEdge R610 server with external storage shelf running VEEAM for backups of VMs
Dell PowerEdge 1950 server - remote administration / utility server
Supermicro 12Bay (12 x 3TB) NAS server running TrueNAS
Network is a combination of HP, Juniper, and Dell switches.
Gigabit ethernet to the desktop, 10GbE for VMs and Backup network.
It pretty much just runs itself; the real need is that someone babysit the VEEAM backups to make sure they complete successfully and do periodic restore testing. Make sure the windows servers are getting their updates (for the OS's that can still get them).
There is also the expectation that IT projects will be performed (negotiate your project/hourly with the owner), including:
Application migrations to hosted/cloud-based services
Fileserver and NAS migration to a proper storage solution with cloud storage archiving/integration
Reduction of the number of VMs, perform some OS upgrades where possible.
Please be prepared for a technical conversation with the former engineer that deployed and maintained the environment for the last 15 years.
