In the first category, we helped uncover a funding deficit on the horizon for a client. It was a situation where a partner was actually a competitor and there was scope creep hidden in their project portfolio, where costs were escalating, and it was about to start eating up our client’s budget, impacting their investment strategy. Fortunately, with our support, executives were warned a year before the scheme took effect. For another client, we analyzed complex financial structures of a network of billion-dollar telecom companies, including offshore entities, uncovering significant discrepancies in their claims of financial distress, which facilitated our client’s efforts to enforce contract obligations.
In the second category, needle-in-a-haystack discoveries, we had two investigations where we needed to gather data and mine it for another case or example reflecting the client’s circumstances. In one case, we investigated a regulatory entity in a certain industry for a private client who suspected others had been impacted for a specific type of abuse, and we were able to find a corollary case after much digging. Another time, we investigated a large layoff, emailing 160 people among 1,100. We found two cases where people had been improperly terminated and were able to publicize one of them.
