Principal Polymer Engineer

You are an experienced polymer engineer looking for a challenging position where your work has variety and a range of applications. You are a subject matter expert (SME). Your in-depth knowledge and experience is extremely valuable to any team in product development, research and development or design of new products. You seek an opportunity to work on an array of products, where every day is different and you can be truly engaged in the polymer aspects of different products. At Panduit, in our state-of-the-art research facility in Tinley Park, IL, we seek to empower a polymer engineering expert to be our SME in this area. In this role you will:

  • Maintain a lab (processing, analytical, & testing) with appropriate equipment to both prepare sample materials for use in Panduit products (typically, prototypes to be tested) and perform evaluation testing with the purpose of identifying materials used in competitive samples as well as aid in the investigation of field failures.
  • Use expertise to select optimal candidate materials to meet requirements for product as described by engineering (I.e., considering cost, performance, special requirements, etc.). 
  • Maintain expertise and monitor industry for new material developments that could be suggested to BU engineering as opportunities for cost reduction and/or performance enhancements to existing products.
  • Design and recommend innovative improvements to all processes.
  • Prioritize work schedule, interpret results to convey conclusions.
  • Collaborate on polymer material issues with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and outside Vendors.

You bring to the table:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year accredited college or university in Chemistry or Polymer Science
  • 8-10 years of experience in thermoplastic compounding and processing in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Candidate must be experienced with functional additives & their uses in thermoplastics. 
  • Knowledgeable of regulations and standards body requirements (e.g., FDA, EPA, OSHA, UL, NSF, USDA, ROHS, REACH, etc.). 
  • Advanced proficiency with material characterization.
  • Advanced proficiency with material processing, especially injection molding and extrusion.
  • Advanced proficiency with quantitative and qualitative material deformulation.
  • Advanced proficiency in problem solving (i.e., failure analysis, D.O.E., test plans, statistical analysis)
  • Advanced proficiency in addressing technical issues with material suppliers
  • Impeccable level of integrity & confidentiality when dealing with customers and suppliers.
  • Organizational and project management skills to simultaneously manage multiple projects
