Here's an all original 1964 Guild Starfire III, set up and ready to rip. Guild was in their prime when this, the star of their show, was produced. Hate to see it go but it's going to make some guitarist very happy.
With a hand carved neck, beautiful cherry finish (with really nice aging going on), this thing ooooozes vibe. Check out the pictures for some of the neck finish wearing down, which is also a major vibe oozing factor. Starfires of this era are pretty light, I am happy to weigh this but I bet it clock in around 6 lbs. They are well balanced though, the neck doesn't dive or anything when playing standing. I have had a few 60's star fires, and a 1959 T-100, all with the same 1-11/16" nut width. This one has a sliiiightly thinner neck than the other's I would say, and I think most players will adore that fact.
Yes, it had a headstock break. It's repaired very well (by Geoff Benge in Chicago) and solid as ever. Holds tune great, neck angle is wonderful. Really nice tuners too, they operate really nicely. See pics and ask any questions you've got.
Electronically, this is set up in the classic Gibson-esque two hum bucker, three way switch, two tone two volume knob set up. The bridge pickup has a great nasally bite, and the neck is full and well rounded. I have the middle position set in "out of phase" right now, because I really love that pokey thin sound. Can be changed to a standard wiring before shipping on request. Great dynamic range in any case, these early HB-1 pickups are awesome and really "natural" sounding to me. Compared with my 1972 ES-335, these are so much more true and open sounding.
Please message me if you are interested in the original hardshell alligator case. I have a few old guilds and am short a case, so I kind of want to keep this one. Medium quality gig bag will be included, guitar will be packaged VERY carefully with ample and proper packaging. I have a lot of experience shipping both old guitars and vintage keyboards worldwide, so I am not messing around when it comes to packaging.
Please ask any questions you've got, thanks much!
