Power Requirements: Power cable has been upgraded to a 3-prong. The original power cable is included with the sale
Modifications/Servicing: Preamp tubes have been changed but are era-appropriate, vintage USA-made tubes. At one time, the original owner had a different 12" speaker in the amp and added some screw holes to the baffle. Also, the lower back panel had a small-ish hole made to mount a treble control for said speaker. The speaker has been replaced with the correct Jensen speaker that is from a few years later (1963) leaving the small hole in the lower back panel. The handle is changed.
Service done in 2025: Replaced all electrolytic caps, replace leaky coupling caps in PI, replace bias diodes and resistors- mod’d bias circuit for adjustable bias - check/set bias for RCA tubes, replace AC cord, replaced defective 12AX7, general clean up & maintenance
Operational Condition: Fully-Functioning and fabulous sounding
Cosmetic Condition: Good with the aforementioned small hole in the lower back panel. At one time this amp was covered in a black vinyl covering with staples. The staples have been carefully removed to reveal the gorgeous patina of the original lacquered-tweed covering. The tweed has some cigarette burns on the top, a small-ish rip in one corner, some "browning" of the lacquer finish, etc. The control plate has some oxidation and wear to it. Overall, this amp has that weathered 70-year old tweed look that Fender and other companies have tried to replicate with their relic'ng process but can never quite hit. This is the real deal
Description:
Want an amp that will make you emotional every time you strum a chord or pull a bend up towards the heavens? Well then, you've landed on the right listing, weary tone traveler because this tweed-clad survivor from 1958 will deliver inspiration in spades every time.
The Fender Tremolux model began as a smaller amp in the same cabinet as the Deluxe but by '56, Fender had started building the Tremolux into the large Pro cabinets while retaining the 12" speaker, circuitry and power rating (15 watts) of the previous Tremolux. Another interesting fact that makes this model quite historic is that it is the first Fender model to incorporate an effect onboard! The introduction of Tremolo on this model was a game changer and would soon after become a staple on Fender and other amplifiers as well as a familiar sound on countless records.
If you're looking for a rare, collectable, working piece of art and American musical history as well as just one of the best-sounding guitar amps money can buy you owe it to yourself to consider this beaut from '58!
