The metal case has the original foam which has also deteriorated. The microphone has been stored in plastic to protect the capsule from bits of foam, but ultimately I'd recommend refoaming this if you want to use it for storage of the mic.
Likely from the very first production run in Mexico.
Please note that this is not the same model microphone as the currently-produced SM7B. These use a different element without humbucking coil introduced in the later models.
