In all sincerity, this is one of the best acoustic guitars you can get for under $3000. I’ve owned several standard series Martin guitars, as well as modern deluxe units and boutique builds. The FG5 out performs any modern D-18 for less than half the price.

Tone wise, you’re getting the woody, honest fundamentals of classic mahogany, but unlike a D-18, you get huge projection and speedy responsiveness right out the box due to Yamaha’s A.R.E. construction technique. No need to wait years for it to open up. The sound is already there.
