Weisfeld Construction is a general contracting construction company specializing in high profile commercial buildouts, mostly restaurants, and high end residential projects, since 2000. The millwork for our construction projects is done in-house in our 5,000 SF shop in Chicago.
Position Summary
The Millwork Project Manager oversees the planning, budgeting, coordination of custom millwork and metal fabrication projects from pre-construction through installation. This role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards, while serving as the primary liaison between clients, designers, architects, and internal production teams.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Coordination
Manage multiple high-end residential and commercial millwork projects simultaneously
Lead projects from shop drawings and engineering through fabrication and final installation
Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, ensuring alignment with client deadlines and construction timelines
Coordinate closely with internal woodshop and metal shop teams to ensure efficient workflow and resource allocation
Client & Team Communication
Serve as the main point of contact for clients, architects, designers, and general contractors
Lead project meetings, provide regular status updates, and proactively address issues
Interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and design intent into actionable production plans
Pre-Construction & Engineering
Review plans, specifications, and bid documents to define scope and identify potential challenges
Collaborate with drafting/engineering teams on shop drawings and submittals
Ensure all approvals, materials, and finishes are finalized prior to fabrication
Budget & Cost Control
Develop and manage project budgets, including labor, materials, and subcontractors
Track costs and maintain profitability throughout the project lifecycle
Review change orders and manage scope adjustments with clients and internal teams
Production & Quality Oversight
Monitor fabrication progress in both wood and metal shops to ensure quality and adherence to design
Conduct quality checks and ensure work meets high-end finish standards
Coordinate finishing, delivery, and installation logistics
Installation & Closeout
Oversee installation process and coordinate with field crews and site conditions
Ensure punch list completion and client satisfaction
Manage project closeout, including documentation and final billing
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in architectural millwork, custom cabinetry, or related construction project management
Strong understanding of woodworking, metal fabrication, finishes, and installation methods
Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and shop drawings
Experience with high-end residential and/or hospitality (restaurant) projects preferred
Proficiency in project management and estimating software (e.g., AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Excel, ERP systems)
Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple complex projects in a fast-paced environment
Drafting skills a plus, but not a requirement
