Brief descriptions of three projects follow below for your review. Please notify us if you would like to volunteer for any of the projects you are eligible for or if you have any questions on any of the projects. If interested, please provide name, a contact number, age, gender, height, weight, occupation and a brief medical history for immediate consideration.

Impaired Mobility Study

Paying $35 per hour for 5-8 hours per day ($175-280 per day) to wear a full leg cast (1" above toes to 12" above knee) and walk around various locations on crutches while someone watches and records reactions in various settings. Also multiple casts and arm and leg cast. Must be agile on crutches. Preference given to people with an actual broken leg, arm, ankle or other medical condition requiring crutches. Project will be completed by January 31, 2020.

Product and Control Group Research on Applied Orthopedic Cast

Need people to test a new combination orthopedic cast. No special skills necessary but must be healthy enough to use crutches. Preference given to people with an actual injury, condition, or medical cast, otherwise cast will be applied and crutches provided. Need applicants to participate from a minimum of 3 days to a maximum of 120 days. Participants will earn $15 to $140 per day up to $32000. Qualified candidates should be ages sixteen to forty-five and physically able.

Participants are initially evaluated based on demographics of age, gender, and height to weight ratio. In a phone interview, participants are further evaluated based on medical history, lifestyle and income and household size.

This project itself is not testing medical effectiveness, but rather product attributes such as the durability of the material and the impact of the material on the temperature and moisture inside the cast and on the user experience. All of the projects involve wearing an actual cast for some duration ranging from a day up to many months, depending on your choice of project and timing.

The first step for any of the projects is a phone interview, application and survey. We have significant demand for the project and are not set up for the inbound volume of calls we were receiving ... So we no longer provide a number until you are accepted and contracted to participate but we will contact you if participants are needed in your demographic.

There are 5 potential projects:
1). Endurance test ... Full leg cast of a varied weight using crutches. This is an observed test done one day at a time at $15 per hour at a determined site. It involves continual walking for 55 minutes, 5 minute break, then another 55 minutes and so on until you become fatigued. The cast is 1" above toes to 12" above knee in non-ambulatory configuration. This test is for 1-10 days to a maximum of $1,200. This project can be done concurrently with #2 or #3.
2). Durability test ... Full leg cast of a nominal weight using crutches. This is an unobserved term test (worn full time with no observation but periodic check ins). The cast is 1" above toes to 12" above knee in non-ambulatory configuration. This test is for 3-200 days at $210 per week or $30 per day to a maximum of $6,000. This project can be done concurrently with #1. Our preference is for you to be as active as possible as we are testing durability of the material.
3). Weight bearing test ... Full leg cast of a nominal weight using crutches on right leg and walking cast on left foot. This is an unobserved term test (worn full time with no observation but periodic check ins). The right cast is 1" above toes to 12" above knee in non-ambulatory configuration. The left cast is 1" above toes to 4" below knee with an ambulatory shoe. This test is for 5-180 days at $350 per week or $50 per day to a maximum of $9,000. This project can be done concurrently with #1. Our preference is for you to be as active as possible as we are testing durability of the material with full weight bearing on a walking cast.
4). Full arm immobility test ... This is a full arm or arm and shoulder cast including fingers and thumb and would require you to function with one arm. The arm is suspended in a sling or shoulder edge. This test is for 5-150 days and pays $10 per day or $70 per week for your secondary arm or $30 per day or $210 per week for your primary arm to a maximum of $4,500.
5). Hip immobility test ... This is a hip spica cast extending from the mid torso around the hips to 4" above the knee of one leg to the ankle of the other leg with a spica bar for stabilization and a hygienic opening for personal care. This project requires a walker or wheelchair for mobility and both are provided. This test is done in one week increments from 1 week to 16 weeks and pays $490 per week for the first 6 weeks and $980 per week for weeks 7-16 to a maximum of $12,740.

You can do any one or any combination of projects up to all five. The materials being tested include plaster, fiberglass, polyacrylamide or a combination. The first two materials have been in use for decades, the third is considered an inert polymer without allergens.

You participate in the project at your own risk as a volunteer on a contract basis. You choose how long you would like to participate for but would be contractualized to wear the cast for that period. The penalty for early removal is 50% of the contracted fee. You can change the contracted period during the first 3 days of participation. You cannot extend participation beyond the contracted time.

If you choose to participate longer than 7 days, you will likely experience some level of atrophy depending on your initial level of fitness. Exercises are recommended during and after participation to maintain and regain muscle bulk, though wearing a cast for an extended period of time will cause severe atrophy requiring rebuilding muscle tissue.

Total compensation from all projects cannot exceed $32,000 per person. Payment can be in cash or by company check, at your discretion. This project extends through 12/31/2019.

Limb Deficiency Adaptation Project

Research on limb deficiencies needs comparative participants. Would do daily timed tests with tasks such as writing a paragraph, threading a needle, opening a can, folding a piece of paper, etc. Would have primary arm in a club type cast to force use of one arm. Various options for extent of deficiency ... Hand and forearm is $50 per day up to 30 days, Hand to shoulder in regressed position is $75 per day and hand through shoulder is $125 per day. Also, foot extensed (ballet cast) for $50 per day, knee cast with leg back and up at $100 per day. Can earn up to $800 per week. Other projects available up to $250 per day. Can be paid in cash up to $2,000. This project will be completed by 12/31/2018.
