I'm selling my Schwinn Stingray Slik Chik bike with the 3-speed rear hub. With an LCXXXXX serial number, it was manufactured by Schwinn in Chicago in November of 1967. This bike is in all original condition and is unrestored. It is rare to find a 3-speed Slik Chik from the late 1960's, and it is really rare to see one in the coppertone color. This was likely one of the last of the 3-speed coppertone Slik Chiks made as the color did not last long into 1968.
The coppertone paint is factory original and in excellent shape. The paint does have some very minor scratches, and road rash, but there is no touchups and none of the typical chain rash on the lower frame bar and it still has a great shine. It has the mathcing original Schwinn metallic coppertone PVC handle bar grips.
The seat is an original Persons silverglow glitter banana seat with the chrome strip and the Stingray tag. The vinyl is still soft, with minimal wear and just a few small tears and cuts on the top. The vinyl is still soft and pliable and has a nice overall matching patina to the bike.
The chrome is also in very good shape and is shiny. Both rims have very nice chrome and roll very smoothly. The front and rear rims are the correct Schwinn factory rims. The rear rim is center stamped "SCHWINN TUBULAR S-2" and has the correct double knurling. The front is stamped "SCHWINN TUBULAR S-7". The rims are in excellent shape with no curb dings and only a light rust peppering, with minimal brake burn. Both rims are very true and round.
Mechanically, the bike is in great shape and looks great. The brake cables are NOS Weinmann cables. I just installed an NOS Sturmey Archer shifter cable. The thumb shifter shifts well into all 3 gears.
The rear tire is a NOS made in USA Schwinn brand 20" x 2.125" small letter whitewall Slik. it is a Carlisle Made in USA tire that is date coded to 1969. This tire is in great shape, with minimal wear, no dry rot, and is still soft and pliable. The front tire is an original Made in USA 20 x 1-3/4" Schwinn whitewall with the Schwinn brick tread pattern.
There has never been any damage to this bike. It is in very nice shape overall and perfect for a collector or someone who appreciates the older Schwinn muscle bikes. These bikes are very collectible and will always hold their value. These were some of the highest quality bikes ever made in large production quantities, and they last forever.
See pictures for details. I am looking to get $975 for the bike. I may be interested in a 1963 - 1965 Shorty Frame Stingray or a 1968-1970 3-speed Stingray in partial trade. Local pickup only in Evanston, IL which is 10 miles north of downtown Chicago.
