DESCRIPTION
Under the direct supervision of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, the Facility Maintenance Custodian Team Member is responsible for the general cleaning and maintenance of Gurnee Park District's buildings, owned or leased, and any other task assigned by the immediate supervisor.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience - Experience in the custodial field, or equal experience in the trade fields.
Education - Preferably a High School graduate.
Skills - A good knowledge of building maintenance is essential. Must possess the physical ability to lift and carry out assigned duties and effectively present information to customers, clients, and other employees of the Park District.
Certifications - Must have a valid driver’s license.  CPR, AED and first aid certification required within 90 days and must be maintained.
Competencies - Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Employee must have a positive attitude. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB
Work involves the cleaning and routine maintenance in an assigned building or buildings, including shelters and public washroom facilities.
Must have good quality cleaning practices and completes daily, weekly and monthly preventative maintenance and custodial tasks.
Responsible for the use of proper methods, chemicals and equipment in cleaning and otherwise attending to the neatness and sanitation of buildings and equipment.
Works cooperatively with fellow staff and general public.
Works closely with the Recreation Team when scheduling and completing tasks.
Completes work orders assigned in MainTrac in a timely manner.  Communicates to requestor on repair and set-up timelines.
Must be able to handle the set up and take down of numerous room set ups on a tight schedule.
Shovels snow and spreads salt at entrance areas during and after it snows. 
Performs all tasks necessary to assure a safe environment at all park district facilities.
Secures all buildings before leaving for the night. 
Understands and follows (SDS) Safety Data Sheet procedures when handling chemicals.
Available to work weekends, evenings and holidays when assigned.
 
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Acts as crew leader when assigned, and is responsible for part-time or seasonal employees assigned to his team.
Trains employees in new and existing methods/techniques.
Monitors and reports the daily progress of custodians.
Inspects buildings and keeps documentation of all inspections and reports.  Repairs any unsafe conditions or notifies the supervisor if unable to repair.
Obtains training and certifications as required.

It is expected that all Gurnee Park District Staff comply with the policies and procedures as set forth by the Gurnee Park District Board of Commissioners.  Resources that outline these policies and procedures include the Personnel Policy Manual, Safety Manual, Departmental Manual, Area or Job Specific Manuals and other written or verbal procedures as provided by your supervisor.  As all situations cannot be documented even in comprehensive manuals such as these, it is further expected that your actions as an employee are always performed with safety in mind, respect of your fellow staff and customers in mind, and at the direction of your supervisor.  The Gurnee Park District has developed the SOFFI Customer Service Standards as a guide to our agency’s expectations and recommendations for successful work behavior.  It is expected that all staff learn and understand these policies and procedures.
