Rent is approximately $625 a month, UTILITIES INCLUDED, plus ~$20 a month for internet. The house is in south Evanston, about 3 blocks from the South and Main stops on the purple line, and it's REALLY big – three stories, including 7 bedrooms and 2.5 baths, and large back yard. Dishwasher in the kitchen, free laundry machines in the basement. Radiant heat in winter, window A/C units in the summer. Street parking. Lots of storage space. Common spaces are fully furnished. Room is available beginning of October, move-in date flexible. Let us know what works for you and we'll see if it works for us.
Available bedroom is on the 2nd floor (no elevator); north-facing window, hardwood floor, decent closet. Bed shown in pictures is a double/full-size (and is available for purchase); the loft fits a twin-size mattress. You’d be joining me and 3 others (plus you makes 5), 1 cat, and 1 dog (both friendly). Unfortunately, we cannot welcome any more pets into the house (other than something small that stays in your room). We're looking for someone to sign a 1-year lease with us starting December 1st, with the option to move in early.
We are 4 close friends in our late 20s/early 30s, queer, who moved into this house a few years ago to give intentional communal living a try. We watch lots of movies and shows together, occasionally have friends over for dinner or grill and sit around the fire in the back yard, etc. We usually throw a couple of birthday and holiday parties throughout the year, and we love taking advantage of actually having a guest room for once in our lives by hosting friends and family for long weekends here and there.
We share all groceries and each take one night a week to cook dinner for the house (which saves everyone a lot of effort and money and we end up eating really delicious food 4-5 nights a week!). Chores are shared equitably (not equally) based on ability and preference, so the house is clean and no one feels put-upon. We have short, informal meetings once a month to check in, discuss problems and goals, and resolve conflict. Most importantly, we try to function as a built-in support system for each other as much as possible.
If you moved in, you wouldn't be required to participate in all of these communal living practices, but our hope is to find someone who is willing to try to be a part of our community while we share this house. Everything is open to discussion and nothing is set in stone.
If interested, please comment here or IM me. I'll respond quickest to those who include a sentence or two about why you want to live with us. Anyone of any faith, race, nationality, gender, sexuality, or ability is welcome so long as the respect is mutual.
