Galina : A Russian Story by Galina Vishnevskaya (1984), 1st edition.
519 pages with rare photographs
The dust jacket has some small tears, but the book itself is in an excellent condition.
This is the autobiography of Galina Vishnevskaya, opera Diva and Soviet super star. Born 1926 in Russia, one was already at a disadvantage. She was abandoned by her parents and went through the Leningrad blockade in her teenage years. After the war, she sang in music hall venues for years to earn her daily bread. Hardly an auspicious beginning for a world renowned Diva. But Vishnevskaya found a great teacher, studied for two years and developed correctly. She soon won a contest held by the Bolshoi Theater and found herself headlining productions in short order. Vishnevskaya later conquered opera stages around the world. Vishnevskaya and her husband, M. Rostropovich, a renowned musician himself , also sheltered Solzhenitsyn at their dacha when he really had no other place to go, being out of favor with the Party.
Extraordinary life of an extraordinary person!
