The OED includes not only definitions, but the historical development of words. This Compact Edition of the Oxford English Dictionary is a 2-volume set in a dark blue slipcase. The drawer holds a Bausch & Lomb magnifying glass, which you’ll need because the text is reproduced micrographically. The case shows some signs of wear; the plastic pull strips are a bit broken at the ends.
The books are in superb condition: the covers have no visible wear other than the bottom edges of the spine, there are no missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, and no underlining or highlighting of text or writing in the margins.
First published in 1971 by the Oxford University Press, this edition was reprinted in 1980. The Library of Congress Catalog Card Number is 76-188038. The boxed set is 14” H x 6 ¼” W x 10” D.
