ESTATE SALE: Vintage, obviously very old. Its craftsmanship is apparent with the open/close mechanism still operating as originally designed. Elderly relative purchased this from an antique shop while on vacation in the Hamptons during the 60's. There are no obvious makers mark and is made of a tooth or animal bone material with a silver alloy mechanism that doesn't corrode/rust. Given the patina on the material and where my relative bought it, we speculate it was made in the late nineteenth century by a sailor, possibly a whaler, which explains the lack of a signature.
