The scoop portion is made of Stainless Steel. The handle is made from solid Goncalo Alves (Tigerwood). The handle alone is 6" long. I made the handle in my workshop, on my lathe. The handle has been finished and sealed for ease of cleaning. The scoop can be unthreaded from the handle so you can put it in the dishwasher.
Overall, this scoop is solid - it is 10" long and weighs about 12 ounces. The frozen confection doesn't stand a chance, especially if you hold the scoop in warm water for a couple seconds before scooping.
