For sale is a Kay Model K6130 Acoustic Guitar Project
The Kay Calypso was a model made by between 1960 to 1965 most likely made at the Factory in Elk Grove Village.
this particular guitar is Kay's take on the Martin 000 body style but with a 25 3/4" Scale Length with a 1 15/16" Nut Width.
Something about these guitars that always surprised me was the Top loading bridge instead of a Standard String through as these were intended to be steel string guitars.
Solid spruce top (x-braced) over laminate mahogany back and sides.
Very Wide D Profile that feels like a baseball bat when you are holding it,
Bridge was reset at one point in time, Can't remember if I did that or not.
Selling this as a "Project" for the Humidity crack in the top of the guitar.
Technically as is, you could string it up and play it as is but I would advise Extra light or nylon strings if you were going to do that.
Ideally, Like all of these guitars from the Era, You would want to get this into the hands of a professional to do a full restore to modern standards and then you would have a Fantastic Vintage Guitar ready to be played for the next 60-70 years.
Asking $250 OBO,
I have an upcoming move so I am trying to downsize some of my projects. I am open to trades for other pieces of music gear
Especially if you are looking at a few of my projects for one guitar.
