For long-term purposes, the condition of each tank does not matter. One can easily take a used tank into a retail supplier of propane tanks have it exchanged for a newer or new tank for free. The important part is when exchanging the tank one has to buy the propane for $16 to $25 for each tank. After buying these tanks and taking them to a supplier, you'll leave the supplier with a newer tank filled with propane for a lot lower price than buying a new tank.

TEST: Each valve was turned and no gas came out of some, which is how it was designed. These valves only release gas when hooked up to the female end of a connector such as for a grill or space heater. This test shows they are not leaking. Although there is corrosion throughout the tank, most of these are still usable. Hook up the connector by pushing it onto the threads and turning it counter-clockwise (not clockwise like many other threaded connectors).
