I Believe I have an old photograph of Lester Gillis, his wife Helen and a second couple. The actual photograph measures 2.5" x 3.5". Gillis is holding a shot gun and I believe the motorcycle is a 1926 Excelsior-Henderson with a sidecar. This is certainly an intriguing and rare photograph.
I have been researching this Lester Gillis project for more than five years. The photograph has received a favorable report back from a leading Forensic Facial Imaging Consultant.
I am convinced this is Baby Face Nelson and his wife Helen. He died on November 27, 1934 in a spectacular all or nothing shoot out with the FBI, Two Federal men were also killed by Baby Face Nelson in this shootout.
A very well researched and written book co-authored by William J. Helmer is BABY FACE NELSON PORTRAIT OF A PUBLIC ENEMY.
