The dresser is not pictured. Sheets and pillowcases are not included. If you're not sure if something you need is in the room or apartment, please feel free to ask!
About the House= Multi story building. The available room is in the garden unit. This is a lovely, well taken care of home. We strive to make repairs quickly, address issues asap, and continuously update the space. Laundry machines are right outside of the back door to your unit.
The Apartment= Garden Apartment. Furnished kitchen (pots, pans, dishes, microwave, etc.), living room (futon, lamp, etc.), and bathroom. The common spaces of the apartment (living room, kitchen, bathroom) are shared with one person, a vetted roommate experienced in apartment sharing.
Your roommate= Jaime, millennial, friendly and respectful, pretty busy working most of the time, manager at a casino, great communicator. He’s been here about a year and has experience apartment sharing. He keeps a peaceful, tidy vibe to the space, and is a great communicator. Someone who could add to that is appreciated. There is also a cleaning system in place that has worked really well for everyone.
About me= I live nearby and manage the house with my relatives (they live in the building and nearby). I grew up in this neighborhood, then lived all over the city, but loved this neighborhood and moved back. We appreciate flexible leases when we travel so we've been offering that for about 15 years now. We enjoy helping our tenants feel at home.
Necessary stuff in the person we are looking for= Kind, respectful, clean, friendly, and a great communicator. Common areas are kept mostly neutral so please keep your things mostly in your room, except for kitchen and bathroom stuff. If you have quite a few things, there are many great storage unit places nearby. For this space, it is preferred if you do not have too many things as no storage space is available outside of your room (except for kitchen and bathroom items). Also necessary: Keep a clean and comfortable living space, pay rent on time, and be accepting, respectful, and kind to all people, including LGBTQ+ and all races and ethnicities. Some basic stuff, too: Be able to split some basic weekly cleaning chores with the other roommate, as well as replenishing common use supplies (toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, hand soap, etc). No 420 in the house or yard, neither vaping nor smoking it, please. Any age/religion/sex/gender/orientation is welcome and accepted.
Ideally= Nonsmoker but, if you do smoke, you will still be considered. You would just have to go to the alley to smoke.
Other stuff= Though we love parties, please keep in mind this location is ideal for someone who keeps social gatherings small, on the weekends, and is considerate of the other roommate and neighbors. Everyone in the house currently has regular working hours. This location is not ideal for you if you like having frequent parties or lots of people over late into the night during the workweek or if you practice heavy drug and/or alcohol use on a daily basis.
COVID 19= We encourage social distancing during any outbreaks and encourage responsible behavior (such as respecting your roommate’s comfort level with distancing, etc.). It is not expected that you wear a mask indoors at this time but it is expected that you respect each other’s level of comfort at all times. This has gone smoothly with everyone so far!
PICTURES = Accurate to the current state of the apartment (+ or - a few small furniture items).
SAFETY: This is a very safe neighborhood! I grew up 5 minutes away and have walked around comfortably at all hours.
DRIVING: Abundant and free street parking around the corner of the house, half a block away.
CTA TRAIN: The Montrose Blue line is a 10-15 minute walk away. The blue line can take you straight downtown and also straight to O’Hare in about 30 or less minutes before 9am. It also operates all night.
CTA BUS: Lawrence Ave Bus is less than a block a way and runs all night. Runs east and west.
*Many of the buses on main intersections and some of the trains run all night (and day). https://www.transitchicago.com/
BICYCLING: There are designated bike paths down many main intersections. Lawrence Avenue (closest main street to the unit) has a designated bike lane. You’re also a short ride away from an awesome forest trail, North Branch Trail (Forest Preserve) that you can take to the Chicago Botanic Garden or the spa, King Spa in Niles. https://fpdcc.com/places/trails/north-branch-trail-system/
GROCERY STORES, RESTAURANTS: There’s a few small, locally owned grocery stores that are walking distance and there’s also a whole cluster of stores about a 10-15 minute walk away (Seafood City, Target, Chipotle, etc.). Jewel and Aldi (Grocery stores) are also a 20 minute bus ride or 5 minute car ride away. This neighborhood is also home to people from around the world so just walking down Lawrence Avenue you’ll find restaurants of various cuisines. This is one of my favorites (Korean): http://www.ssyal.com/
COFFEE SHOP, PHARMACY, GYM: Local coffee shop, Casa Cactus, is a 10-15 minute walk away. https://casacactuscoffee.com/. LA fitness, a gym, is a 15 minute walk away and there are also a bunch of smaller gyms that are closer like Mac’s gym http://www.macsgymchicago.com/.
